Town Sign Jamie Thackray

Workington town are pleased to announce the signing of ex Great Britain, Hull, Leeds and Castleford prop Jamie Thackray.

Directors Tony Boyd and Malcolm Allison travelled down to Leeds yesterday to secure the signature of the highly rated prop forward.

Jamie has extensive superleague experience and will bolster the clubs forward pack in the hunt for promotion in the forthcoming season.

The signing further demonstrates the clubs determination to bring in top class players to improve the squad.

Director Tony Boyd added "Jamie has just finished a stint with Limoux in France so is fit and raring to go. We are constantly on the lookout for new players to improve the squad going forward, but will only sign players who are right for the club".

Certain sectors of the local economy will be delighted.

Hope it works out for you boys, but he is more of a showboater than a player, cant tackle or retain the ball in the tackle then looks to blame the ref or whoever. You probably have better younger players in your youth set up who would be a more beneficial.

If he's concentrating he can be quality and would be far above anything Workington or the vast majority of SL clubs have in their academies or even squads. But sadly that doesn't happen often enough.

He was pretty naff for us a few years ago, was either dropping the ball or getting shown a card...someone needs to get his head on right

On the Barrow forum they reckon he was very good for them last season and would have him back there without hesitation, so hopefully he carries on in that form for Town. I believe he has also had a successful recent spell in France too.
