| Well done Silver2 for getting the correct season - Bevan had already played his first trial match on 17th November 1945 but had to return to Australia for demob and didn't come back till the next season...so this is the immediate post-war "transitional" team which didn't yet feature many of the stalwarts of the later 40's who were still awaiting demob themselves....The ball carrier hasn't been guessed yet, so I'll end the misery and name Billy Belshaw.... here's the pic with the teamsheet: date was 9th March 1946 at Wilderspool against Wigan, and was a right trouncing, 0-38....another reason why quite a few names here didn't last all that much longer as better players became available:
IN OUT
BTW, George Taylor also features in my avatar....
Does anyone know what colours the kit here was?
Nice job everyone!

| I should have got John Rothwell as he was my son in laws grandad. For the colours I'd go for blue shirts with yellow cuffs, white shorts and blue socks.

I believe this results from the club cosying up to Lady Greenall. She was a Conservative, hence the blue and her favourite flowers were primroses. Alas, in spite of all of this kowtowing she never did sponsor the club.

B is Workington
D is Hull. Quite a good game, actually. A couple of disallowed tries, some good play. It was a Saturday afternoon game, on Granada, for Rugby League Live
Was F Leigh?????

Yes them’s all correct
Football scores in rugby games
I remember them as sanded mud baths and you didn’t know who was who after 10 mins.
Team A.C.E left.

There was a Greenalls brewery on the corner of Hardshaw street and Church street.
All the old bus stops were on Hardshaw street by the brewery.

They are both right
I didn’t go the Floodlit final v Salford, as you correctly point out, which was in 74, and was 0 - 0, with Salford winning the replay.
That leaves Team E.

(Hull game) Was that when we had Greg Mackey, or had he moved to Hull and was playing for the opposition?
I used to love the rugby league on Granada. I think that's where (now principle commentator for ITV's football) Clive Tyldsley's voice was first heard as Granada's RL commentator.
Q. In that era of Granada RL and live; who famously (for Wire fans) made his debut against saints at prop forward, rampaging through their pack virtually every time he had the ball? (GB prop Kevin Ward was playing).

I remember some pretty poor results in the 84/85 season. We were god honest puss poor. We stayed up with some low scoring affairs in Cumbria and I was there to see them, following Wire religiously. The one time ever in my life I rejected Wire away for another game. Halifax, where I knew we'd get thumped? I went to watch the Lancashire Cup final instead. Mal Meninga was just something else.

| I was at the hull game(D), as lefty says it was a very good game of rugby. Mackey got abuse for the full 80 minutes! The week later we were on Granada again against Oldham away and lost 4-2. Any other time wire have lost 2 games in a row without conceding a try?

A bit of a clue, he arrived at the same time as Bateman and Ellis.

Yes! Well in 'MPN'. His debut was stunning, the saints forwards couldn't pin him down and he made it look easy. He bounced back many saints forwards including Ward (fantastic big prop). He was a tough old South Wales fella, 6 foot 1 and nearly 18 stone. He didn't need any coaching, just give him the ball. Out of all the Wire forwards I've seen over the years, I've never seen anyone have so much natural power and ease with which he could gain yards through the opposing pack. Well in MPN.
