I think its a great Sponser. Stobarts is a European name with great potential. They have the rally team (not sure if they still have it mind) and they deal with logistics for Mercedes F1. If we can get any of their influence into the game thats great.

Also wouldnt it be great if they named 14 of their trucks after the 14 teams in the league? They do allow for one off names that are not girls names so you never know.

Not true. Superleague can only dream of having as big a European operation as Stobart.

This is a great organisation to be aligned with and for mine, feels like a much better fit than probiz, who's unfathomable 'wealth creation' business seems a bit incongruous.

Don't get me wrong, it'd be fantastic if they did but doing so would require them spending money for the branding to be done. After all they are sponsoring us not the other way around.

If Stobarts are spending Millions sponsoring Super League then its a fair assumption that they will emblazen 'Eddie Stobar - Proudly sponsors Super League' on all their vehicles, no?

If true stobart group would be the biggest sponsor to be associated with Rugby league for a long while , other than Gillette of course. but they throw most of their weight behind Football or Soccer as they call it.
it's 2010 turnover was 450M.
Steve O'connor has a 3% stake in the group has revitalised Widnes in the last three years. Stobart run some WRC cars but this will put their brand front & centre twice a week on Sky... if true ....

I posted earlier and forgot to credit, and when I realised I'd already lost connection (was tethering at the time). So all credit goes to Neil.

The same reason that McDonald's change their packaging to include the Olympic branding and even Peter's 'Super League Pies'. They gain the kudos of being associated with a top level sporting competition and would be daft not to use it in their business.

A quick scan of google would seem to show that certain parts of the tesco "trampers" business has been closed down/changed.....and I have to say, some independent Truckers don't like the green machines if their forums are anything to go by


As for the poster who reckons they will suffer as a result of any loss of Tesco business.......Tesco pay the lowest rates to all their suppliers. Stobarts margins will go up if anything..they currently have a 7% PTP on a 500 mill TO......hardly breadline and if they were in trouble, the wouldn't have introduced a further 1,000 new wagons to their fleet in the last 12 months.

Tesco don't pay their tax bill either

........they have a duty to their shareholders apparently

They are also in the habit of telling their consultants that the agreed rates they have in place no longer apply & if they want to continue working for them they must cut said rates by 30%. Also at the end of last year they told consultants they must repay 10% (from memory) of what they had been paid during the year as said consultants had done so well out of them. All alledgedly. This during the toughest period in living memory for most consultants. Tesco are greedy scum IMO. I really, really, hope they tried it with Stobart & Stobart told them to feck right off & die.
