You and I both know Rugby League will always be to poor relation to Rugby Union in South Wales.
Thats the way it has always been, and the way it always will be.
Celtic havent been going long and already they are on about shifting games to Wrexham and Newport in the hope of attracting more fans.'"
In those seven bolded words, you've shown yourself up again. What on earth is wrong with "trying to attract new fans"? What is wrong with trying new things?
Catalans have spoken about moving games to Barcelona - is that a sign of desperation?
I'm not saying that RL will overtake RU in Wales, it won't. That doesn't mean it's wasted effort. There is still, I believe, a market there.
And how are those problems solved by putting a team in Cumbria where many of the problems you slag Celtic off for (ground, crowds, finance) still exist?

| Quote ="Barry_McKenzie"Depends what your definition of 'great' is
If you think toddling off down to a ground (that Quins don't own) which is commonly referred to as 'The Moon' amongst footy fans in London (no atmosphere and no one goes there) to watch substandard Rugby League where the inevitable result is that Quins will miss out on the play offs yet AGAIN is 'great' then I am genuinely very happy for you
'"
so we agree then? You are a tw@!
Now that's settled we can continue the conversation. The Moon? Commonly known where? The walkabout doesn't count.....it's full of barmen on their days off (as is every other crim pub for that matter).
Substandard RL? OK, we may well miss out on the 8, but who cares? From being 100% crim in 2003 to fielding more English players than some other "traditional teams" and still sitting in 5th place with a game in hand......I'll take that. Substandard by the way is a term should be reserved for the DULL 5HIT dished up in the NRL every week.
Let's face it, you know SFA about anything to do with the attitude of the public in London. You think that you and your mates sitting around having a beer is a snapshot of what 8,000,000 think? Yeah right

Trust me.
The stoop is known around London as the 'Moon' when Quins RL play there owing to the lack of atmosphere and the fact no one ever goes there.
You probably don't realise this because as you appear to frequent the Stoop yourself, there is clearly no one else there to ask.
No need to show disrespect to the many brave Aussies and Kiwis that died at Gallipoli (I spelled it correctly to try and help you from embarrassing yourself further) just because you are rattled.
This is a footy forum.

| We should be trying to expand our game but only after rugby league is at it's best where it is already being played. Rugby league has not yet gone to it's full potential in the areas where it is strongest.
Catalans have been a breath of fresh air in super league are by far the best expansion success story but have Hull KR not been just as much of a success story, so could we not have another Hull KR waiting in the lower leagues.
I am all for expansion but certainly not at the expence of Widnes and Halifax.

| Quote ="Barry_McKenzie"Expansion is not the future of Rugby League. They should pump more money into promoting what they already have in the areas that truly matter.'"
I take it you want there to continue to be only 3 nations able to play high standard, competitive Internationals in RL then. That would be result of dropping Celtic, Quins and Catalans even if the TV contract wasn't cut as a result of them being dropped.
England's latest games against Wales and France show clearly that a team full of full-time pros will walk all over one with a mix of pro and semi-pro players every time. Consequently, to have more countries able to compete internationally they must be able to call on full-time pros for their national teams. Without the expansion teams in SL, where will they get those players from??
Let's suppose that RL did go back to its' traditional areas while RU continues to expand. What players would stick with RL when they could get more money and go more places playing RU then??

Yes but they have had 4 different names since 1980 and been bailed out by the RFL. Even Richard Branson couldnt make money out of them

Right then...work done so I am back for a while my crim buddy!
4 Names or 40....so what?
Bailed out by the RFL how. And before you start spouting more unsubstantiated b0ll0x, post something with a link to a real site (leaguefreak doesn't count) that clearly states how we were bailed out by the RFL.
As for the Bearded one.......he didn't spend a brass farthing marketing the club and EXPECTED people to roll up just because he owned it.
As it is, the reason that most crims I know don't go the stoop is because it's not built on top of a london underground station. Strikes me as a bit odd that they will fly 25,000 miles over here to pull pints and drink in 'strailian themed bars, but they won't walk for 10 minutes to watch the game the are supposed to love.
Fact is cobber..........and I am neither rattled or drunk (working on the second one), but you can spout as much inane drivel on the boards and try to start whipping up a debate about expansion and it's obvious failings, but as much as you post b0ll0x, Harlequins RL or anything else we may become over the coming years, are here to stay. You on the other hand are a transient visitor, with no right to an opinion......especially on something you know SFA about.
P.S. Just hacked your account on here....and you are not banned from the Quins Board HTH

In my opinion it would make far more sense to make the game stronger in areas where it is more established before attempting to introduce it into others.

On that basis League would never have started in Oz. because we have told them not to bother. Why don't you do something positive and start a team in Ayers Rock?

Look to your own country first, it took them decades to get the game out of Sydney & there are still a lot who begrudge having to see thier teams travel out of the city! When the Broncoes first started up the Sydney clubs wanted expenses paid to travel up north to play. What has Australia ever done for international League? sweet FA! thats what except whinge & whine about our referees, weather, its to dangerous to travel, five weeks is to long away. & God help any Aussie test star who genuinly wants to take his family to experiance life & culture abroad he is stripped of his right to play for his state & country now that is a great way to treat your stars. The last proper tour by GB was ruined by self ed clubs who put out junior sides against the tourists as thier own domestic comp was deemed more important. The reason the game is in a mess is that the amount of money pushed at the Australian teams has put the whole game out of balance. I cant blame the clubs but you must remember that is the number one sport in two states where we in the north are at best third & a long way down the list for cash. Even in the East Yorkshire area Union has more players than league even though it has no major club League away from the two states in Australia will always struggle to find a bigger audiance but at least we try to spread the game. I wonder what would have been the reply if we asked NSW & Queensland to play in the world cup? but GB was expected to split into the home nations for the good of the game. Please dont try & tell us how to spread the game because at least we will try.;

'Spreading the game' as you put it is clearly not working though.

it's getting like the "I've been banned" crap from earlier. All I want is a link to reputable site that says we were bailed out by the rfl? It isn't brain surgery. Oh.....you can't be bothered = there isn't one. The knuckle dragging anti-expansionists have banged on about this "bail out" for years but I have yet to EVER SEE PROOF that it happened.
BTW.....I am as thick as 5hit......which puts me about 250 mensa points ahead of anyone from crimstralia HTH.

| The RFL missed a trick with welsh rugby and London when we were the only professional game and RU was amateur. If they had set it up then they would have drawn the big players quite easily and the game would be well established now but hey hindsight's a wonderful thing and no sky cash probably wouldn't have made it possible.
Quins problem is marketing and that's it.
They need a huge marketing drive
Celtic need a big backer, better facilities, and a team that can compete. it's their 1st season ffs
Catalans are fine and im glad they are part of SL and i hope we start to see Toulouse in SL too.
