Aus population is around 21m. England (note England, not Britain) is 51m, which means Eng is 2.4 times bigger than Aus, roughly.

That means based on same population sizes, English footy would still probs attract 216,176.

How many teams in the AFL? To make my comparison with the EPL I used the top 16 clubs in order to match the numbers so how any AFL teams are there?

I think beating last years opening round attendances by 10,000 with a game to go warrants a mention......I don't think anyone expected the spanish inquisition



The AFL is by far the biggest attended sport in Australia...16 teams BTW.....so relevant to your EPL figure of the top 16. That said, it's a toss up to which sport is the more boring.......

EPL top 16 teams aggregate attendance is 625,000 rounded down.

That's an average of 39,000 per club

I quite like AFL, it has its moments, and being a Hawthorn fan, you get to see a lot of them in recent times

dunno......I know they struggle over here and a bit in Australia but pack them in to south african games...according to wiki they average 27,323 per game.

And I'm not so glad we've had another arrogant Ausie on here telling us how superior the NRL is by by making a ridiculous comparison between arguably Australias No1 sport and Englands 5th!

You're referring to m4e I take it.....as I am a tea caddy living in Wellington New Zealand. I don't think he was being arrogant.....the fact that they have had a bumper start to the season was worth a shout.......and NRL is not Australias number 1 sport....AFL is.

If you want to respond to what you believe is an arrogant post by a crim, just remind them of who currently has the bigger crowds and the bigger TV deal (currently)...that normally does the trick


As I stated above, the 25k average they have achieved is great, but still 2,000+ less than the kick'n'clap brigade....if you throw that stat at them they generally pi55 off

......but if they are still annoying you, remind them that a club soccer match got a bigger gate than any of their opening round games...that should do the trick
