| That's the difference, all players have had a sly dig from time to time, but it's the real cheap shot merchants that we need to look at.

Yup, can't really see why the likes of Cunningham, McGuire and Sykes have been mentioned so far.
Don't recall Sykes doing anything offensive, apart from maybe his poor defense and handling when picked for England/GB. Michael Platt would have been a better call from Bradford.
If McGuire really was a nasty piece of work I'm sure he'd receive a lot more 'attention' from opposing players. While we're on Leeds, Webb I understand. Even Burrow has been involved in more fights than McGuire. Ablett has a bit of a nasty streak as well. Bailey is a given but it is all calculated wind-up to win penalties. Peacock has his moments too - but he's no Barrie Mac. The recent Leeds pack has nothing on the days when Murray was in charge and the team received a warning letter from the RFL about its tackling technique. Halcyon days.
Leon Pryce deserves a mention - remember the cowardly smash on Sinfield when he was at Bradford, the 'ball handling' incident on Burgess? Seems to have cleaned up his act more recently though.

He does have a tendancy to "run away" from the big boys after he's started a fight... usually when Leeds are losing. He's always putting in punches / dropping elbows in tackles, much like Chris Joynt used to do. There's no doubt about it, his game has gone WAY downhill since he was challenging Vainikolo for top try scorer, back then I thought he was a quality player. Now he's just a crap thug.

Ablett I don't think is a particularly dirty player. The things he's been pulled up for such as the high hit on Tomkins last year are probably just bad technique or "a moment of madness". I certainly don't find myself watching him play and thinking "He's at it again" like I do with McGuire, Wilkin, Bailey, and did with Cunningham.

I do indeed. I uploaded a (very poor quality) video of that hit on a popular video site. Given some of his antics over the years, I'm surprised he's still allowed to play the sport. However, let's recognise his achievements... after his horror tackle on Brian Carney in the 2003 Grand Final, the "Grapple Tackle" was outlawed, and he was voted Super League's dirtiest player in 2007.
Maybe it's just because he's missed so much of this year, he's not had chance to re-assert his position as SL's all-time filthiest plonker.

| There is no way that McGuire is dirtier than Pryce, who must be up there with Hock and Bailey.
There is also the cowardly forearm smash to Jamie Lyon at Odsal when Saints were giving Bradford a kicking one time, that saw him sent off.

But we're only talking this year, aren't we?
Actually, looking back, no we aren't. Never mind, Pryce used to play Centre/Full Back, didn't he? Room for both.

Only one choice. Ian Millward.
Famously claimed that players "assaulted" on the field should face criminal charges... just as Leon Pryce came along.

| I would very much like some of the Super League players mentioned in this thread take on this pack... that would sort out the men from the boys (fantasy Rugby League at its best – all we need is a time machine!)

Westwood is certainly a penalty machine, specifically in the area of giving away penalties for lying on, but I wouldn't really say that's "dirty".

Search a certain well known video sharing site for "Lee Smith 3 Chicken Wings" and "Lee smith kick phil bailey" or something like that. No punishment for any of those, either...
Quote mcguire, twice now he has shown bad sportsmanship in challenge cup finals, this years and 2005 both at the final hooter'"
Only twice?
Oh, just in Challenge Cup finals. Yeah, happens a lot more than that in Super League.
Quote ="FC Callum"Seen it, your point?'"
Well, I'll nominate Raynor for his Ink Cartridge scam (bad example because he IS already nominated), Paleaaesina for the bus driver assault, Martin Gleeson for betting and other issues and Ryan Hudson for being previously banned for drug use.
Do you see? None of those have any bearing on their on-field dirtiness, neither does Joel Monaghan's indiscretions with a dog. On the field, I can't say anything but good things about Joel Monaghan. Hock would be in the same boat, if it weren't for the fact he IS a hothead on the field.
Not defending anybody's actions, but when we're talking dirty players, I think we can only base it on what they do on the field, not off it. Proving the validity of such a team is hard as the only stats we have access to are cards issued, bans received and penalties conceded, I don't fancy trawling through them to find out which cards were for lying on too long ONCE when the team had been warned, what bans were for non-playing related incidents and what penalties were for offside rather than high/dangerous tackles.
Being banned for drugs doesn't make Hock a dirty player... but going for the eyes and punching does.

| People always overlook Ryan Atkins in the dirty stakes. He is really bad with niggly things like going in with the knees and grappling on the ground, always wanting to large it over a smaller player.
