| Quote ="Chorlton RL"That means that half of the middle tier is open now! Get in!
I've been keeping my eye on the ticket page over the past few days. Only a third of the middle tier is open for purchase online. With all the offers knocking about and the talk of emails from the RFL saying 43k tickets have been sold, I wonder if they're opening the whole of the middle tier up, but aren't putting them all up for general sale on the site. Instead they're withholding some from the site and selling them over the phone to those using a promotion'"
Thats sounds logical - have the 4 nations site showing tickets for general sales only, and the other sites/deals for sales in other areas on the middle tier.
By the way, another 2 deals sold in Surrey

WC final '08 was 50,509
Biggest before that was 66,540 at Wembley for WC final '95 between England and Oz.
That sort of thought makes me feel very excited about Saturday indeed!

In fact, after having a quick scan through the rugby league project website, this could be well into the top 20 greatest Test attendances in the sport's history. Its certainly top 10 in the last 50 years.

I'd have thought you'd be going all along.
I just watched "4NTV Tomkins 'England can go all way'" on the SL website again. I feel a bit sick now with the butterflies.

This is the phenomenom I christened to be known as 'old people internet humour'. It's prevalent accross forums where the older generation mingle with the younger lot over a mutual interest. It's never been funny and it doesn't make you down with the kids. I'm sorry to break it to you but its about the fifth example i've read this morning... FWIW windows XP isn't cool anymore either.

Folk have been saying this, but I don't understand why. What's the crack with Groupon, is it just a big, well-known company or is there a bit more to it?

All the offers are allocated regionally as well, therefore you only get 4-5 offers for your region a day, meaning you don't have to trawl through loads - its very specific marketing.
This means anyone in Milton Keynes, North London, Surrey or Essex who has signed up to Groupon will know about the deal. And there are hunderds of thousands of people signed up to Groupon in the UK, if not millions.

L1 refers to level one, which is the concourse that goes all the way round the outside of the stadium, so you can walk around. It looks like the trophy will be at the end of Wembley Way. If I remember the lay out rightly, it'll be next to or near the Bobby Moore statue.

It's the large amount of small-minded, parochial, whinging sods involved in RL, especially fans.'"
For the record i am going, i bought 6 tickets, and why can't i whinge, people on here talking like it is some achievement getting 40k in a 87k stadium and most of these tickets are freebies, heavily discounted. That is not a good thing in my book. RL shot itself in the foot many years ago axing the ashes tours, when i last went to watch RL at Wembley 1990 & 94, we got 57k and i would bet not many of them were freebies. The staging of games at small grounds has put a perception in peoples minds it's not much of an event any more. The RL should always have the games at big stadiums, this creates more of an "event" atmosphere ala Union. Look back in the 90's and we got impressive crowds at big stadia, all the "so called" expansion plans and letting the game die in the heartlands is the reason our game now struggles.
I would say, the RFL are doing a good job using groupon etc to push tickets and i think that is good work. But i have had Sky Sports on this morning for 2 hours while i work, not one mention of Eng V Aus and if you look at BBC website the RL section is not awash with stories about Saturday, there is one story about a new debutant for the kiwis. Why are they not pushing the media with information and stories?

calm down, we will not be getting 50k plus on Saturday.
If we give away 30k tickets at a tenner and loads of freebies, does that make it a success for you? It doesn't in my book. We have a huge fan base to sell to but not many are interested even at stupid cheap prices.

Loads of people have it on their smartphones as an app. I'm not sure it'll do much to persuade someone to go to the game at Wembley though, unless they already had an interest in the sport. What we need is more profile. The RFL should be buttering up the BBC and Sky with free news items that they can stick on the TV without much thought and getting into people like the breakfast DJs like Moyles and getting them promoting it.

you have to start somewhere though. on the basis that "the staging of games at small grounds has put a perception in peoples minds it's not much of an event any more", how do we get out of that perception without taking the first step. It was never going to be a sell out - 40k is a good starting point for the future.

True, TV audience is just as important (as long as the team deliver). I haven't seen those ads or anything on SSN either. When was the last time, if ever, a rugby league match was broadcast live on two channels?

Thanks Chorlton, that sounds right. I'd read "concourse" and assumed it meant the area inside the stadium.
