It was an unfortunate accident, Cas will lose their best player for it because it was reckless, the over reaction on here is an embarrassment to the game, no wonder the sport isn't taken seriously with "fans" like the ones on here

So do you stand by your statement that a player who injures someone should automatically be banned for the same period? Even if it was an accident?
If not, you're a hypocrite.

Moa raises his elbow, Bridge's "tackle" was the closest thing to GBH you'll see on a rugby pitch outside of a brawl.

| an earlier poster wishing that Issac Luke had done more damage to his ankle, since when did 2 wrongs make a right? Speaking of which, Luke, who'd later admitted he intended to hurt chase, yes it was INTETNIONAL, was let off. Im not at all condoning the reckless hit by chase, deserves a 3 game ban. But a ban forever, a ban till tangi recovers, banned for playing for England, deportation - i mean, come on!

Does he though?
Tony tonks (ex fev now at hudds) posted on the fev facebook page saying that its very difficult for players to obtain insurance and a clubs policy tends to only cover neck and spinal injuries
I hope he is covered but when a current SL player is questioning insurance and also an ex player you have to wonder whether he is or not

| The lack of a backbone shown by the disciplinary in this country is pathetic.
Tony Williams, a current Australian international and Origin player was slapped with a 7 match ban for a dangerous throw in the NRL.
This premeditated assault is going to get away with less than half of the offence yet one player is now facing 12 weeks on the sidelines and undoubted pain in that area for a long time to come.
Pathetic

Is this definitely how it works these days? i.e. they can't count not playing for the U20s on the blank weekends? Otherwise a 2 or 4 match ban would only count for half as many SL games.

Errr... yes it is far worse!
Moa was a perfectly legal attempt at a shoulder barge that was mis-timed by a second and caught Rinaldi on the shoulder and side of the face. It was very debatable that it was even a red, and in the face of it was by far the least serious of the 3 incidents here (yet the only one punished at the game).
Chris Bridge's was bad, should have got a red, but didn't hit the player's face, and it wasn't at full pace. But should have been a longer ban for deliberate use of the elbow.

Then you need to start watching another game. Pro sport is as cynical as it comes - taking key players out is a legitimate if distasteful part of the game. These guys do this for living!!
Chase had his feet off the ground and his elbow above his shoulder at impact - he only had one intention that was to hit Ropati in the face with his elbow. It is the worst I have seen since Mick Cassidy's elbow on Adrian Morley. Good tackling technique will stop a player - you don't need shoulder charging to stop a player - we should be encouraging good tackling and as such shoulder charging should be eliminated from the game.

Are you for real? Seriously, the look on Chase's face says it all after he's "done him"
It was a sick challenge and one that warrants at least an 8 match ban IMO, thats what Cassidy got in 1998 for something very similar.

| From one angle you can see that Chase always intends to hurt his opponent, his arm doesn't stop raising and he actually jumps into the tackle, his feet are off the ground whilst his elbow is in his face.
The other angle shows that although initial contact isn't in the face, he can see his opponent yet still raises his arm into his face and you see his elbow flick out after there is no longer resistance from his opponents face. Chase watched his elbow break his jaw, he knew what he was doing.
He then stands over him looking at what he's done with his chest puffed out and fist clenched, much like the iconic Muhammad Ali photo;

How Fooking blind are you lot.
The distance that chases arm comes away from his body is what differentiates it from the moa tackle and the bridge one is a cowardly cheap shot but has nowhere near the force or connection as does Chases.
If this was a Giants player i would have no problem with 6 or 8 games.
I have yet to see any evidence that it was not forearm / elbow to the face

Only Cas fans seem to be missing this key point.
Well them and the spineless RFL panel of course.

| What is also disturbing is the fact that no penalty was awarded. It was so obvious and the BBC repeated the incident quickly but there was little if any mention by the commentators either. It makes you wonder about the sport when the referee, touch judge and 2 commentators fail to spot such a blatant incident, these are supposed to be the professional and "expert" people in Rugby League, no wonder the game is in such a mess.

| I would hope that Chase is harangued at every ground by fans of every club for what he's done to the lads jaw. It was the most cowardly of shots since Terry Newtons on Sean Long, it has no part in our game. Ryan Bailey received a 3 match ban for pushing Silverwood out of the way to effect a tackle, it will be interesting to see how a smashed jaw and possibly a lifetime of pain and arthritis compares in the RFL's book.

Well, considering the first 2 points of contact with Ropati are Chase's head then upper arm, to say it was a deliberate elbow is falsifying things.
It was an unfortunate thing to happen, but the reaction on here has been ridiculous, if it was any other player nothing would be said (well, unless it was Bailey or Hock).'"
I cannot believe after 25 pages, with evidence to disprove your point of view, that you are still trying to defend this thug. You are a disgrace my good friend, and should hang your head in shame. And hope that something like this doesn't happen to you on the street. At which point I hope i'm in a position to note that 'The first contact came off the shoulder'.

Being involved with jr rugby, it's a genuine worry that the current SL MoS and an England international can run up to a bloke, literally smash his face in with a forearm then stand over him sneering, and be back on the pitch in a few weeks time and probably be in an England jersey later in the year; what kind of message does that send out to young players about how to behave, or to the parents of those players about how the sports administrators will look out for their kids?

| Anyone who has played the game will know that if you want to put a shoulder into a tackle, you keep your upper arm tight to your side and your forearm tight across your chest. It's the only way you can effect a shoulder charge without risking breaking your own arm. Look carefully at the short-side slow-mo, Chase can clearly be seen to be lifting his arm before ANY contact is made, Ropati also seems to see what is coming and tries to get his head out of the way. The physiology and dynamics of the incident (Chase approaching from Ropati's right and managing to hit the left side of Ropati's jaw with his right forearm), would suggest that this was far from being any accidental or even mistimed collision.
