Next to the 2nd most visited attraction in England, HUGE commercial opportunities there.
Next door to a train station, a motorway junction and when finished 4 roads into the area.
Already gained outline planning permission, with NO objections, unlike Newmarket which is riddled with objections and a high possibility of the Government calling it in for review.
3 week away from being ready for full planning permission to be submitted.
Still only 8 mile or so away from Wakefield, so it isn't that far, and because they like to use this little quote when it suits them, I'll use it now "Cas is in Wakefield anyway"'"
2nd most visited attraction?
More that Alton Towers? Blackpool Pleasure Beach?

Sounds like that part of the district is doing well.
If a stadium is dependent on public money, maybe they ought to spend it elsewhere so more of the district feels the benefit?

Great! In very small area already saturated with visitors you think its a good idea to throw in 10K more. Of all the virtues Glasshoughton has that isn't one of them.

=#8040FFYes, a stadium that close would generate more people going to games on the basis some people will wonder what is happening and go to have a look.
There are (and will be) plenty of roads to accommodate for it all, the location is one of the best in RL for a stadium no 2 ways about it.

| I don't understand why people think Wakefield would want to play out of Glasshoughton? It's just as far away as Oakwell in Barnsley, they might as well just play there. At least then they wouldn't be on the doorstep of their biggest rivals, and technically it would be expansion into West Yorkshire.
They also could be in there by next season, and it would mean Cas have no options. If I were a Wakefield director, I'd be pushing for this as the most probable solution. If they dropped the "Wakefield" part and went to just "Trinity Wildcats", they could even open up a whole new market in Barnsley.

| If Barnsley would host Wakey, and they took that option, they could possibly save themselves in terms of having a future in Superleague.
I'm in the camp that believes the RFL will probably look to get rid if 1 of the 2 clubs come licence time and if Wakey went off to Barnsley leaving Cas without the means for a new stadium then Cas would most likely lose out come licence time.
I'm not saying it's right, it's cynical and spiteful, but as the powers that be are so (wrongly IMO) obsessed with stadiums then, sadly, that's how it could work out.

Obviously that is the main stumbling block. But I think in this climate, most sports clubs would be looking to use their facilities for as many games as possible. That's where negotiations will have to come into it.

| We at salford are well on the move with our new ground, and WILL HAVE A BRAND NEW STATE OF THE ART STADIUM READY FOR 2010!!!..the wakey and cas situation is rather intersting!surely with both clubs either on there own or as a joint venture at present having no solid plans in place and work starting sooner than later!are going to be still at there current grounds when the new 3 year franchise period comes around. So realisticaly does this mean one of these 2 will drop out of super league in a straigh swap for most likely Widnes??

No you won't. Unless you think a stadium can be built within 5 months!
And Salford are in the same situation as them, i.e. you have not started work on a new stadium yet and don't know when it will start.

The stadium at Newmarket is to be part of an industrial complex. Given the choice between a ground on an industrial estate built on green belt land or on brown field land in the most popular area of the region makes this a no-brainer. Families have a huge range of things to do before and after the rugby at Glasshoughton. At Newmarket they get to hang around some industrial units.
The possibilities for RL of a stadium at Glasshoughton are phenomenally exciting. The council would be blind and stupid to not see that.

I can understand why they're not sold on it, but the only benefit of Newmarket is that it's equal distance. It provides nothing in the way of commercial development for either club - certainly not the same scale as Glasshoughton - and doesn't help tick the £4million turnover box the RFL want clubs to achieve.
There's also the small matter of there being zero chance of a build starting at Newmarket before licence applications are assessed. The RFL have already stated that there are no excuses for a build not having started by the time the applications go in.

To be honest with you its what many Trinity fans are discussing, and its the Cas fans worst nightmare, hence the touchy reactions whenever this option is brought up.

The green belt is a none issue. The land is getting reclassified. The real stumbling block is the shortness off time, thats why the option to use Oakwell, if it can be negotiated, would be great to buy more time to complete the development.
