| If there is any truth in the article, RL is starting to get a little bit grubby.
Are SL spots now for sale on the open market, what the hell is going on ??
Covid19 apart, a great city but, still not a great fit with SL.
Does this fit with the geographical connectivity that Elstone mentioned the other week.

19 Jul 2016 ... Toronto Wolfpack Chairman Eric Perez reveals the future of Rugby League - but not as we know it Jim. He explains to Dave Woods how Ice ...
You will hear Mr. Perez saying professional sport "needs to stimulate grass roots growth" and he talks about the importance of Paying Television deals.
It's a very attractive proposition that we have a club say in New York or the South of France, and very welcome if more New Yorkers and French lads take up the game as a result, and pay to watch these clubs on TV, but if all this does is [usubstitute[/u clubs here who people do want to pay to watch on TV and who do produce new players like London for clubs that just provide exotic names and locations that isn't expansion.
In fact it would be "Contraction".........

They are not in SL or any other league at the moment, expanded to extinction perhaps or just to New York.

| You need to get out more. Much more. Skegness is not the centre of the global tourism industry.
BTW. There is no such thing as Bradford Canal. There however is Bradford Beck, Leeds Liverpool Canal and The River Aire.i will pass each after leaving the airport in 4 hours.
There is also the Ionian Sea but not in Yorkshire. It has lots of red snapper and tuna. That was Thursday..
I do hope you enjoyed your Yorkshire Day in Skeg Vegas.

| Quote ="Donnyman"The last one was four years to achieve the plan to get to SL, a year late, but that was without any return on the £18,000,000 invested which was supposed to be Canadian players and TV deals.
As for Ottawa there's no sign they have £18,000,00 to burn, and there's no chance of SL level Canadian players or a Canadian TV deal either. Perez just can't let go.
So forget 10 years, Superleague won't want this mess ever again not in 100 years. Let's just get the Bulls back in SL. When Perez was there I felt he should have stayed there, somewhere where he could have done the game a lot of good. Somewhere where he could make amends following all his nonsense.......'"
Wont let this happen again ??
Not in a 100 years ??
Have you been asleep for the last 25 years
Paris, Crusaders, Bulls bust, Toronto. The list is endless (almost).
3 x 8 structure
MPG
The litany of mistakes is endless and do you really think that they're going to stop.
RL is a desperate sport, prepared to take a punt on just about anything that it feels may help, even if it's doomed to fail.
It' needs stability over everything else and ideally a shed load of cash.
There needs to be a decision made as to how many top flight professional clubs that the game can support.
Serious thought given to the international game and serious thought given on how to grow the sport globally (which needs the Aussies on board).
We have a world cup next season (hopefully) and there should be plans to use this to make advances in developing the game on the back of it.
Is there a plan (that has a chance of success) or, are we going to lurch from further failed scheme to further failed scheme

Very astute as usual. Canal Road in Bradford is a reminder of the Bradford Canal Branch of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The canal was extensively used by Bradfordians as a great big rubbish tip which led to it's closure as a health hazard. Later the Odsal bowl was also used as a great big rubbish tip .

By stability do you mean...a sport that has gone backwards at an embarassing rate over the past 30 years and a sport that now pays its players less than it did at the start of superleague, once inflation is factored in? Or by stability, do you mean a sport that has seen more clubs go bust than any other sport? Or by stability, do you mean a sport that has seen people switch off watching it their tens of thousands?
yeah, these victorian clubs playing out of dumps of grounds are really helping the game :

Up to a point yes, but, the game was struggling before either Paris, Catalan or Toronto came into the fray.
Decisions need to be taken for the long term good of the game and serious thought given to advancing the international game.

Hmm, I guess the six community Rugby League teams in the Vancouver area (Some of which now also have women’s teams) are playing a different rugby league then ?
And the British Columbia representative team and the Western Canada representative team don’t exist either......

I've already dealt with Vancouver that has a significant rugby union game, that the Canadians play and that immigrants from Australasia also mainly play as well. There is friendly Rugby league played there because the immigrants like to organise friendlies or tournaments and play some league. If you think that the influence of some ex pat Australasians will somehow end with Vancouver spawning a TWP style pro Rugby League side then dream on.
It is 7767 miles from Sydney to Vancouver
It is 4600 miles from Hull to Vancouver
Perez goes on about finding decent "Canadians" for Ottawa, players whom Nobby could not find when sent out by Argyle to scout Canada RU for likely professional level recruits. Maybe Nobby forgot to try Vancouver?

An Italian team toured her in the 1950's so what??. RL is and has been played in far more countries than most people would realise, but translating that to entering a team into the professional ranks here is absurd, which is what TWP turned out to be and they had £18,000,000 behind them.....
And this actually settles "that one"

Thanks for the post.
Yes of course we struggle because we are a throwback to the days when the North dominated Rugby Union and the south hated that. We broke away and the rest of the country stuck with the south. However we have spent 124 years surviving and doing pretty darn well, also surviving the onslaught of soccer.
But you know as well as I do we won't "expand" by TWP replacing London, or Ottawa replacing Wakefield, or Catalans replacing Widnes, or New York replacing Salford etc etc. This is the utter nonsense of calling what is substitution "Expansion".
You talk of advancing the International game. Once again in 2006 Richard Lewis put Catalans in the professional game here to do just that. Since that day the number of quality French players had dropped significantly and the France/GB tests were pulled.
I appreciate your idea that we need to protect the "Long term good of the game" but that is protected by sticking with the clubs, like Wakefield that have made it through 147 years. So called fans call your club out big style, but do you really think replacing Trinity for Toulouse would somehow revitalise the France.v. GB test games?

I wasn't saying that they are quality players, but our fellow Leigh supporter has lived in Vancouver for quite a while now and he should know. You stated that they don't play Rugby League in Canada which is wrong, just admit it. I agree with 90% of your posts, but not this one. One of those teams used to play at The Lamport Stadium, not that interesting I know, but I was aware of that fact. Keep up the good work anyway Donnyman....
