| They should have played it at Huddersfield.
I can't wait for Saturday now. It would be nice to get it to 70,000 but it's already a big success. Forgot the capacity of the ground and focus on the attendance is all I can say. To get 65,000-70,000 people on for an international league match is a throw back to years gone by and this at a time when people are talking of the game being on its backside.
Now the challenge is to get the atmosphere going and back the team.

| There is a part of me that thinks perhaps some of the bigger games should have been played at slightly smaller venues to change the attitudes and generate the demand.
Would have been good if the (genuine) "sold out" signs had been up a few months back, rather than people asking whether they can buy walk up tickets to the RLWC Semi Final.
Hence future tournaments might sell in advance, and not be reliant on "double headers" and discount vouchers to entice people just days before each game.
Crowds on the whole have been decent, but I think that they haven't made it a "must see event" due to the (excess) availability of tickets.
Noting of course - had there been 'lock outs' people on here would still moan about not being abole to get to the game etc.

Is there still some discount codes knocking about? I thought not.
I can't agree tbh. I would rather have 70,000 in a 90,000 seater stadium for a double header then for example, 45,000 at Man City's ground for England v NZ and 15,000 for the Aussie game at Leeds/Wigan/Saints. The event will look great on TV as well and playing at big grounds in capital cities gives the event that 'big feel'.
Correct call for me.

I agree, Fiji-Australia would have been a difficult sell. We've also sold a lot of tickets for Wembley to non-heartland areas, which is vital if we want to grow the game.
we've already sold 20K more than the previous double header at Wembley in 2011, a World Cup is a bigger draw than a 4 Nations but it looks like we've retained the audience from that game, and added some new fans on top. You would hope that if we play games there every 2 years that crowds like this can become the norm.

Of course taking the semis to Wembley is the right call. If we get over 66.5k it will be the largest international crowd we've ever had at Wembley bar the 1992 final. There was 36k on for the only other time we have played New Zealand at Wembley in '93.

Except for the result that was a brilliant day. Cheered up no end after the game by a bunch of Aussie birds singing "Tie me kangaroo down sport" as we walked back from the ground.
And Deryck Fox was awesome.

Re-watched this on Youtube a couple of weeks ago. Connolly doing his ankle and being replaced by Devereux who mis-read Renoufs run to let the try in essentially cost us the world cup. Now way Connolly would have missed that tackle.

Read somewhere that Phil Clarke had injured his right shoulder and Devereux was having to cover his outside as well as his own area and as such had to move inwards which created the space on his outside (these are Phil Clarke's words not Devereux's so don't be too hard on him).
Follow the link and look at the quality of both sides on the day. Great game, just a shame Tait couldn't get the ball down from the bomb, great defence mind.

| 65-70k is a huge crowd.
In advance, I always thought the one big crowd we could guarantee was Wembley as there is so much support for the game down here. Hence, we didn't need to have it for the final or the first game (though I think if our sole concern was guaranteed tickets sales you could have had both the first game and the semis down here).
For as long as games have been played at Wembley there has never been an occasion where the crowd would have been higher in the north. The last double header was the highest crowd in that tournament. The 36k for the Kiwis was the highest crowd for that Tour. Wembley never fails.
London is a heartland for our game, if only we could turn that into more regular support.
As for other grounds, the organisers have got it absolutely right this time. While we have had sell outs they have come generally with days to go, rather than a long time in advance.
Next time I would have bigger grounds, if available for all the England games.

I thought the Sold Out signs would have been up by now for the WC final considering how well sales seemed to be going even befor the comp. had begun.
If you go back a few pages, going off the website stadium picture it looks like around 60-65k sold so far for wembley.

| I see David Beckham and his lads were at the England soccer match at Wembley tonight. Not too late for the RFL to invite them to the semis at Wembley on Saturday.
Beckham is clearly patriotic and loves his sport. If he had a few positive things to say after the match it would be priceless good publicity.

| So it is official 63,000 tickets sold for Saturday so far. Final pretty much sold out save for a few hundred £40 tickets. 280,000 fans at games to date. Not bad, even allowing for the doom mongers who lurk I the shadows of this forum or the land of the long white cloud, they will have to pleased - within reason of course, with those numbers.

Was saying the same thing to my old man, there are plenty of RL enthusiasts within the public eye. Joey Barton, Roy Keane, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Bradley Wiggins, Lee Westwood, Andy Peters, Wayne Rooney, Carolynne Poole to name a few. Potential marketing reach of infinity on twitter.

This isn't a Club Wembley game, so Club Wembley members will have to buy a ticket or a box to get in.
