This is the France thread you started.
In the last 10 years what has been the average attendance for Catalans Dragons - and for Leigh and Wakefield?

Try to not associate personal view with the sportsteam one supports.
Hull is a wild and wonderful place but not a disputed territory in the last decade. HTH.

The last one was four years to achieve the plan to get to SL, a year late, but that was without any return on the £18,000,000 invested which was supposed to be Canadian players and TV deals.
As for Ottawa there's no sign they have £18,000,00 to burn, and there's no chance of SL level Canadian players or a Canadian TV deal either. Perez just can't let go.
So forget 10 years, Superleague won't want this mess ever again not in 100 years. Let's just get the Bulls back in SL. When Perez was there I felt he should have stayed there, somewhere where he could have done the game a lot of good. Somewhere where he could make amends following all his nonsense.......

I know, we need Garry Schofield on SKY...that would ruffle a few feathers.I think Brian Carney criticized them being allowed to quit Sooper Dooper league, but that's about it.

I think TWP will have easily have spent £18,000,000 Ste, or maybe so far "committed to" that, and now they are reneging on the player deals, as you say it may end up less by the end of it all.
I also think your observation as regards those in the RL media, TV and RL mags/papers is correct. Everyone was expected to be "positive" about them, but maybe that's what you have to do if you want the game to succeed, even though personal thoughts may be otherwise. Everyone in the RL hierarchy and RL journos seem to have been positive about Ottawa and New York (or at worst made no comment) so maybe it's an unwritten rule to be positive about the game at all times when you work in it and your representing or talking about it in Public.
Can't agree at all they will keep TWP as a SL club. [uThere is nothing to keep[/u - No ground, No money, No players, No owners the only thing to their name must be the players kits, the balls and a load of TWP branded snake oil or whatever they were pretending to sell worldwide.....Oh yes and the unpaid debts.

Martyn Sadler heaped praise on TWP and the American dream in his TRL paper for four whole years. So did Lockwood in his copycat paper.
On the day it all collapsed Mr. Sadler decided to write some pie in the SKY piece about his proposed change to the ownership model of English Superleague clubs.
Garry Schofield was left to condemn Argylle walking away....

Go look it up if your interested. My problem with Catalans is they long ago abandoned any idea of being the club to underpin French player development, their original role. The original idea was this would revive the France/GB tests if french players were professionalised. 2006 they had 22 French players mainly in the first team. In 2022 they have 16 French players mainly in the higher number squad shirts. The French tests died two years ago.
I don't see the road ahead as kicking them out of the game here because I feel it would accelerate their game's demise that is occurring at the hands of French Rugby Union. I think that it is essential to raise French interest, that Catalans and Toulouse play each other every season but the best thing is for that to be in the Championship.
I can see there being 16 serious English member clubs chasing 12 SL places 2022. A token place for France takes away a French derby, the Championship will still be a great league and I'd like to see the two French clubs in there. IF they wanted.

Well maybe your right that it looks better for the game that they say in the official press release, in the end the costs of Covid and suspending the season and the problems over Visa's led to the clubs sad demise.
When a rogue dies you really have to be as kind as you can, even though the truth may be the opposite. He got bored.

Why would that be the case especially with Sky pundits? Wouldn't sky be annoyed at losing a game to broadcast?
Maybe those sky pundits were offering their sincere opinions.

| Quote ="Donnyman"That's a brilliant post..........
Replacing a club here in England like Hemel and substituting it with a club in Canada in Ottawa adds how many more clubs to the professional game?
None. But Ottawa will continually be called an "Expansion club"
Taking away the local semi-pro club that managed to make Hemel a Rugby League town with top players coming through (Dan Sargison?) contracts the player development base in the south. Yes contraction
OK Ottawa may have access to a few $Million but to get anywhere and to justify replacing proper clubs like we see with phoney Wolfpack replacing the Broncos (hence Canadian clubs destroy our southern base) they need something more than money and that is the desire to grow the game on top of the game here, not replace it and depress it in the south of England.
People may recall the rumour a year or two back Argyle was to buy into London Skolars? Imagine if he had done that back in 2017 and supported Skolars, then partnered with Broncos and Hemel, how that would have massively boosted the Game here in England. Real expansion
The word just isn't expansion. It's substitution and damaging at that....'"
Where would you expand first if you in charge of ETP?

There's stuff about buying TWP's "Franchise" but TWP is not a franchise.
Also stuff about private equity investment but that's just private investment as opposed to investing via the stock market, either way investors look for returns, not multi £Million losses.
Minus £18,000,000 is far from a return..........

Not sure they have the monetary backing. Mr. Beaumont apparently has that monetary backing. The criteria Hetherington states are all OK but if these clubs cannot afford to compete that's that?

Bit more on this, Any purchase of TWP's place depends on that place in Superleague "remaining intact", hence the move by Wilby is to see if New York can simply step in accordingly.
The benefit to Wilby is his alleged backers won't face the $$Millions they (if they exist) will have to lay out to go through the Championships. The intention would be to secure the SL place and go straight to building an SL team for next year.
Whatever you think [u in theory[/u it's worth Wilby taking a punt, the downside is that that place in Superleague may be lost to TWP today when the RFL meet to discuss Toronto's "participation agreement" (not Franchise). Wilby is basically saying give us their place in SL next season and we will carry on the "expansion" project?.
The practice may be different, even if the RFL chuck out TWP (well what remains of them, kit, balls and snake oil) there's half a dozen English clubs who would like to have that spot.
Cynics amongst us may believe this is an exit strategy for Wilby. Pretend New York are all ready to go in Superleague, ask for their place and when told no, disband and blame the RFL/SL for being anti-expansion. How in earth would Wilby even find a competitive team in a matter of months? He just wouldn't but this may save his face?
