I quite like S Pyke on the radio for the BBC, when he's usually being understated, obviously Sky are asking him to express himself maore, to be a bit louder, it doesn't sound natural for him, when you have ppl like T O'Connor and B McDermott as co-commentators IMO you need quieter and more understated commentators. I prefered A Voss when he was starting out with C9, he's shouting too much for my liking now, it's Murdoch's fault, lol.

i agree they just went on too long. up until mid 2000's they were very good. i don't think it helped filling the box full of people fighting to get out the same old sound bites then adding Cummins who brought nothing at all.

Eddie was a fantastic presenter imo and he could have kept doing that job alone forever and not many would argue. It does need looking at the current crop of main commentators are pretty awful.

When i listen to him I just see the spitting image doll of Roy Hattersley. He's absolutely awful.

Pyke sounds like he’s putting on a comedy/parody voice whenever he’s commentating - the sort of voice you put on when you’re playing with the kids and commentating along.

It would help if we had someone who actually commentated on the game instead of spending 15 minutes talking about who owes who a £3.80 coffee or boasting about how many times one of them had visited the disciplinary during there career.

Sky need to get a grip with the commentators and pundits.

Jon Wilkin, Kevin Brown are the best I’ve heard recently and should replace Baz, Tez. Phil Clarke needs to go too. Tries to come across as intelligent and insightful but just talks nonsense.

Talking of which, I thought it was cringworthy listening to McDermott waxing lyrical about that fat lump Pauli Pauli in commentary last night.

Why can’t we have the crowd/ ground noise only? I know at the moment it would not work. Sky used to offer this option. Those of us who have followed the game don’t need commentary. I do agree that the ones on Sky now won’t attract the new or casual supporters.

I want commentary, but I don’t want third rate pub banter and repetitive ‘pub bore’ theories.

Stuart Pyke used to be the football commentator on BBC GMR, and he didn't even commentate on the RL on that station as it was always Trevor Hunt or Jack Dearden. Strange choice by Sky, although he might be the new Barry Davies, where he is the voice of a few different sports.

When he worked for BBC GMR did he used to call himself Umberto?

Remember Pyke being on Piccadilly in the 80's doing RL and Man City games. Clive Tyldsley has been dropped to number 2 at ITV depends if he is freelance to be able to bring him across to sky.
