Running with your suggesting, and ignoring the fact medical professionals spend years studying and specialising, do you not think the underpaid nhs staff will be more likely to make more mistakes if they are forced to work 10 hour shifts for months on end?

Why is everything so binary with you? When 5% of the NHS staff are off work on annual leave, it's not a ridiculous suggestion to cancel leave to ensure enough staff are available. I even suggested paying them a bonus for that. I'm not suggesting you agree with it, but there's nothing at all wrong with suggesting it. It's likely this wave will be done in three weeks. Are you suggesting the NHS staff cannot possibly work three weeks without a holiday?

“It’s good news that the number of daily new cases has slowed for now. ZOE COVID Study data shows that this slow down is being driven by cases falling in London and in younger age groups. However, it’s worrying to see cases increasing in the over 75 age group. This is the group we need to protect as they are the most likely to be hospitalised as a result of a COVID infection.
Three weeks???

Unfortunately people have been saying ‘it will be done in three weeks’ since March 2020. Must be those pesky scientists prolonging it for more media work….
You’ve avoided my question twice now. Do you not see your grand idea leading to more clinical mistake being made by tired nhs staff working outside their own areas of expertise?
I appreciate you are not trying to get me to agree but you just keep repeating it despite being told by practically everyone else that it’s a terrible idea. You really can’t accept the criticism of your idea?

| NhS staff have apparently been resigning in record numbers of late, and recent surveys suggest many more are on the brink of quitting. Cancelling their annual leave would push many more to conclude they have no future.
The question was is it really so far fetched to call people back in from their leave, and I would say that the answer is yes. It would be the ultimate insult to a jaded and disenfranchised workforce.

Not really, no. Not taking your annual leave in one particular month doesn't make you make mistakes. NHS staff had all summer up to November to take holidays when there was very little pressure on the hospitals and the covid wards were largely shut. I'd presume the majority did that, when the weather is good and you can do things. You're assuming that they've worked 24/7 for three years, when the vast majority clearly haven't.

You're not the most intelligent group to be fair. You've all mocked me saying they can move stafff, saying they can't. They already do that during normal operating anyway, and most certainly will be during pandemic waves (and especially during pandemic waves when there is a pandemic of annual leave being taken in January) which shows how far off being right you all are. Pumpetypump made a good point though, the impact on moral is a very valid point. Would a nurse mind not taking their annual leave during a pandemic wave if they were given a £10,000 bonus for their efforts during covid? Maybe they would, maybe not.

I agree with a few of your points, however, the majority of people working in health and social care don't do it purely for financial gain, if we did, we'd be mental.

Indeed it is.
But when it questions my intelligence based on my adherence to the viewpoint of over 98% of those on the planet qualified to have an opinion, I will call it as I see it and this particular poster seems intent on banging the drum for herd immunity and making the huddled masses of the NHS dance to his hours rota of "work when you're told"........NHS staff are not burger flippers and Mc D's. They are vocational workers, trained and highly skilled and one would believe entitled to take time away from their jobs.
This posters stance that "the woke lefties' are happy to hide behind a wall of fear funded by the rich, enabled by the media and created by paying a handful of medical talking heads makes me think that he is totally disconnected from reality or on the wind up.
I am still leaning towards Poundland Troll and it's 2-41 Monday!

| Staff not taking annual leave can be dangerous. In my experience many are burnt out and only a proper rest will help. That's like a fortnight no the odd day here or there. Giving them money instead isn't going to deal with that problem. We're also losing a lot that are near to retirement that have decided enough's enough. Covering for staff now when we have 10-12% absence is a real trial.
As for taking leave in summer well most did. Even though that was when we had to try to catch up on things that had been put on hold. In mental health there was no summer lull as the mental health effects of the pandemic filtered out. Those already ill were much worse. Those with mild conditions were more likely to need beds and those without any MH issues needed to access help.

What a load of rubbish. £10,000 bonus per medical professional from where exactly. We have a Tory government who refused to give the nhs staff a pay rise because a clap at 8pm was good enough.
Giving you some credit, retail shops often prevent staff from taking annual leave in busy sale periods so I get where you are coming from but for me it just doesn’t translate to vital care where one slip of the knife or misread of a chart can be fatal / end in litigation.
I can’t be bothered breaking down the rest of your points. Personal attacks on intelligence do you no favours. As I said I agree with some of your earlier points but you’ve dug a big hole for yourself and seem hell bent on defending it. As another poster pointed out you are very welcome to your opinion, as am I and the others who think your idea is laughable.
Either way let’s hope it’s over soon and we can get back to ‘normal’ soon.

| Carter not happy about the vaccination rules in France potentially stopping unvaccinated players/people entering the country. It's understandable that he's frustrated that he potentially won't have 6 players available in France, but it's only 2 games, so just get on with it.

And if every club has almost 20% of their first team unavailable I’m sure there’ll be 2 clubs whose directors will be loving the idea of that.
Huge leg up for the two French clubs on the face of it.

Allegedly its Castleford and Wakefield who have a fair no of un vaccinated players add in a few injuries as well and the french teams are most likely to be awarded the 48-0 wins if the rules are different over there.
It would have been interesting if we had promotion and relegation if the club owners would have put pressure on the non vaccinated.

We do, but I was unclear, I,m implying that relegation could be as a result of occuring a couple of 48-0 losses via vaccination rules.
I also dont see the point of Catalans playing for the Superleague Champion title, when their chairmen said they won't play in a grand Final again unless its conditional of having a aussie. ref.

The league is a bit over 80% according to reports and Wakey are at exactly that based on Carter in the press so it's not them. I'd be very surprised if any club was 100% but there will no doubt be some more affected than others.
But contract renewal time will be tricky for players, especially this year, if they haven't had the vaccine. I can't see any club going for them except at a steep discount. Well maybe Leigh but they're the GB News of the league, and about as well run.

I should imagine another 4 to 6 weeks here in the UK we most probably will have a fair amount of herd immunity, France another couple of weeks further down the line. Come mid season clubs playing in France might see relaxed rules its probably at the start of the season clubs (Wakey, Wigan,Hull KR,Giants) playing at Catalan and Toulouse could be disadvantaged.
