Saying that, i'm not giving enough credit to Boyd and Slater's positioning. Both showing why they're the top Full backs in Aus.

The problem with SOO these days is that it is just like an NRL game – yes, it’s a good standard of rugby and to NSW and QLD natives it will really matter but for somebody brought up on the legend of origin in the 80’s it has lost its edge. Put these players in a Brisbane or St George shirt and it would look just the same

It used to be played and (vitally) refereed differently to the week to week games – more was let go and it was edgy and looked like it was going to explode at any time. Now, the ref’s penalise everything and it loses something because of that. I don’t just mean fights but the brutality and spectacle isn’t there anymore for me (which is no bad thing because I think this mantel is being picked up again by International League)

Still, I will watch any game of Rugby League

What a first half. That was twice as fast as an NRL game, Dunbar, the pace has been unbelievable. Not to mention the unreal completion rate by both teams.

I agree that it is fast and skilful – I’m just saying that as a spectacle, it has lost some of the gladiatorial aspect it used to have

My favourite moment in recent Origin history was when Michael De Vere got his head stapled back together... think it was 2003 or 2004...and then played on.

If there was ever a moment that sums Origin up it was that one.

The fans have as much to do with the success of this event. Full crowd, teams colours absolutely everywhere - makes it an event.

Would that happen over here? Not a chance. Infact the closest we get to an 'event' like this is the challenge cup final - which probably says alot about us arranging rep games ourselves.
