USA won 104 medals in total 46 of which gold and China won 88 medals in total 38 of which Gold.

That's a total between the two of 192. There were 962 medals in total on offer meaning that 20% of the medals were won by just two of the 204 countries taking part (that's less than 1% of the countries involved).

I can not wait to see how they get on at the commonwealth games in Glasgow in 2014. How fortunate are we to see these two sporting super powers competing in Great Britain within two years?

Neither are members of the Commonwealth, hence not competing in Glasgow. Unless this is a joke that I just do not understand.

I would say the team gb did miles better than both of those countries we came 3rd in the table ahead of Russia, France and Germany who all have a larger population to choose from than us

Both USA and China are rubbish at sport. They just have big populations. and work at the sporting numbers game.

Per head of population seems like pretty much the fairest method of comparison to me, although the results are distorted by tiny countries which nevertheless get a single medal.
