I still think Herbert can grow into that role. Herbert might not be a controller yet, but he's getting better and he does put players through gaps. He doesn't take the line on as much as Sammut.
I think we agree that either Witt or Sammut would both be an improvement.

Problem is we aren't going to see any combination including Herbert as he'd have to go to sign any of crusaders halves. Technically ah van could go to free the quota spot but then we have 5 halves (6 if you include southernwood) which is too many IMO.

Oh.
Sammut isn't quota but is non fed trained right? So we would still need a spot for him really.
I'd get rid of Herbie for either of Witt or Sammut though.

| Yep, we already have BJ, Briggs and Gale signed up for next year. I would imagine that leaves probably 1 spot left if we include BK as cover for the halves too. Can't see us signing two more unless Briggs leaves, even then that would leave us with quite a bit of cash tied up on 2 positions.

| Disregarding players now available I'd like to get back to the original decision. Widnes are in. It now transpires that Wakey meet all the criteria. Does that mean that if Crusaders had not fallen on their sword then we would now have 15 teams in SL

got it in one Ewwen. Difficult call for coach IMO. Not convinced by Gale at all in scrum half role. fine as a standoff. Think herberts got more potential as organiser although I prefer him at standoff. would happily lose herbert for either of witt/hanbury to partner gale/briggs at standoff. Whilst I think sammut is a more off the cuff player at standoff than herbert I'm not entirely convinced that a sammut/gale partnership is more balanced than a herbert/gale one. Sammut stands out in highlights for the off the cuff attacking stuff. I'm not sure he contributes as much in other areas though.

except it doesnt mean that at all. If they met all the criteria they would be a grade A club. They've just been judged to meet more of the criteria than halifax. If crusaders hadnt withdrawn their application then wakey may have still have been judged to be the 2nd weakest of the applicants and left out. RFL said repeatedly that we were sticking at 14 teams and only agitators from clubs under threat suggested a 15 team league.

| Wrexham has been demolished by large pink bunnies. This has caused the Crusaders to live up to their name and fight back against the bunnies and head out to the bunnies home planet to protect humanity

From what 've heard Witt has a pretty complicated injury which has put clubs off him.

Sammut for Bradford is the rumour.
A mate of mine spoke to Jarrod at the weekend when he played for Malta in France and he has confirmed that he has signed for the Bulls, to be confirmed by Bradford next week unfortunately.
Found the above on trustinwidnes.com
No more or less reliable than anywhere else but you never know.

| Heard sammut is done and herbert is leaving. REALLY hope its not true. would prefer witt or hanbury over sammut and if we did that, id shift on briggs rather than herbert. difficult choice but herbert has showed good glimses and im worried briggs wont get enough game time either way next year and end up moving.

| We seem to be going down route of playing 2 standoffs in the halves roles. Worked for Leeds for years but they had benefit of sinfield taking organising role at loose forward and playing a bit like a third half. Can't see anyone in our team who can do similar at the moment.

| Would it be worth considering bringing in Harris into the coaching set up? Not a fan of his But he seems like an intelligent man who could help Potter deliver his plans

| Maybe so, he must know the game inside out. Having said that he does have one of the dullest voices ever. Might we run the risk of him boring everyone to death?

Could send him into the opposition dressing room before kick off, melt their brains just prior to kick off.
That being said, it wouldn't hurt us to have someone like Harris on the coaching staff. Especially for players like Briggs and Southernwood

How many times can players put up with him saying "This Wigan sard", "This Saints sard", "This Leeds sard", "This Warrington sard" etc etc.?

| I can't help wondering if the demise of the Crusaders (at least as a SL outfit) has changed what might have happened.
The question is whether Sammut is a 'done deal' as some on here are claiming. If it is signed already, then we are going to have to pass on Witt and Hanbury (even assuming they'd want to come) because we'd have Sammut, Gale, Jeffries and Briggs already for the halves.
But if Sammut isn't yet finalised, then presumably we can switch attention to Witt or Hanbury. I'd personally like to see Witt in our team , he looks a class act whenever I've watched the Crusaders.
In general terms, I suspect a whole bunch of the Crusaders teams are going to end up at Widnes. You might almost say it was planned that way, but perhaps that's being too cynical

Isn't there some adage about generals always starting the next war by preparing to fight the last one?

| Disgusted at the whole farce. I didn't think anything could make me feel sorry for Keith Senior, an individual I have a punchbag named after, but no-one deserves to be treated like he was yesterday.
Feel more sorry for the Halifax club and Fans, and the Crusaders players and fans. On a rare day Rugby League gets the sporting spotlight, the RFL embarrased us.

senior and lulia in centres, keep chev walker if fit and move him into 2nd row with elliot, elima loose, unless we get a ball playing loose
