| Sorry to drag this back on topic, but IMO afully match fit Reardon is a better choice at FB than a fully match fit Halley, who, in turn is a better choice wing than Reardon.
Carry on....

| Joe Wardle played for Siddal u17s and looked a good back prospect, the kind that everyone was always talking about (also think he can play in the Forwards S/R?) Hope he does well. always looked the part anyway.

| My worry is that outside of the first 17 the rest of the team is lacking in experience. If we get a few injuries we'll be struggling, particularly in the half backs.

I think there are two schools of thought here:
1. Have a really good 17 and fill the rest of the squad with youngsters and cheaper options
2. Have a squad of 25 average players.
I stand well and truly in camp 1. We get some big star names and should anyone get injured, the youth the get the chance to step up.

I agree with your there. At Hull weve had squads of 20 average players with a few star ones for a few years now with limited success, were as St Helens have had in general international standard players from 1 - 17. Same with Leeds. These two have dominated the league for 4 seasons now. However, you do have to be lucky with injuries.

You might be right.
Unfortunately we'd need a time machine we could turn back to 2003 to be able to prove it one way or the other.

Sykes, Godwin, Menzies, L'Estrange can all cover stand-off and if push came to shove I think we could put together two make-shift halfbacks. Sykes or L'estrange could maybe go at 7 if it was absolutely necessary.

When has Godwin ever played in the halves?
I don't recall him doing at any club he's been at.
The only reference I can see is Wiki claiming he can play at 7, and we all know how reliable Wiki is. I could change that right now to say he can play at prop.

He was, but I seem to remember someone saying the problem was his passing ability not being up to standard for a half, so he was moved to the wing.
I would expect after Sykes (who will no doubt be first choice backup), Beaver will be the next in line to cover.
If we need anyone else, we've had a pretty unlucky injury run to lose 3 out of 4 players we have lined up to play there. Any club would be struggling if they lost 3 of their 2 first choice and 2 backup halves (except Warrington who have almost a full squad of them).
Also don't forget we have the kid Wardle in the squad who has played in the halves for the academy/reserves.

According to [url=http://www.slstats.org/p309/Wayne%20Godwin.htmlthis[/url, he played one game there for Wigan in 2005.
And according to [url=http://www.rleague.com//db/player/k/kearney_brett/index.phpthis[/url, Brett Kearney played one game at SH (or HB) for Cronulla in 2006.

Good find that.
I've just taken a look at the Wigan side for that game and it was:
Radlinski(c)
Aspinwall
Wild
Vaealiki
Dallas
Melling
Godwin
Seuseu
Newton
Guisset
Hansen
Tickle
Beswick
SUBS
Allen
Colbon
J.Coyle
Prescott
Missing for Wigan that day, include Brian Carney, Danny Orr, Dennis Moran, Gareth hock, Kevin Brown, Sean O'Loughlin and Danny Sculthorpe.
Since Orr, Moran, Brown & O'Loughlin are all experienced in the halves, it looks a lot like he was about 5th (or even 6th) choice, which probably goes a long way to saying how much of a half he is
I always thought he might be ok at 7 myself, but looking at that evidence, I'm starting to suspect not.

| It all depends what you expect him to do at SH. Deacon got through a decade on a kicking game; when Saints were at their peak under Millward he had all sorts turning out at 7. You need your key players in the 1,6,7,9 & 13 positions to be familiar with the game plan & each other. As long as he didn't try to be Alex Murphy he could do a decent job. Andrew Johns played 9 a number of times for Aus.
