Thing is Pickergill is still inexperienced. It’s only his first full season. When McNally is fit he’s clearly the better player at the moment. Perhaps Pickers thinks he’s a better chance of being first choice elsewhere? If he is out of contract then I’d obviously want to see us keep him as he’s useful and will improve. Whether he’ll ever be as good as McNally I don’t know so I wouldn’t break the bank to keep him.

I just hope we don’t let him go and bring in someone who’s worse.

That’s definitely wrong, he’s out of contract. Pickers and Elliot are best mates, to be honest I some times worry about them. Thick as thieves

I can accept homegrown talents leaving for a shot in SL but with all due respect I can't see how a move to Featherstone furthers his career.

It would make sense if we stay in League 1, but if he's jumping ship because of that then I don't want him here anyway.

I'll update the squad list to show the correct contract expiry date. This is the second time the website's been wrong on this subject. Suggest we take it all with a pinch of salt in future.

If he does go then it's a chance for Alix Stephenson who's looked very good indeed this season. He could make a good understudy to McNally.

Could Stephenson also be in the clubs thinking regarding Pickersgill? I have seen him at Dudley Hill a few times this year and he looks dangerous and has more pace than Pickersgill. But with Brandon you can see its about a much more rounded game. Difficult decisions ahead im sure for both club and players

Twas ever the case I suppose. Always difficult decisions. I like Pickersgill. He's got a good attitude by the looks of it and is improving. That said he does have some weaknesses in his game. Hopefully Kear has full control over recruitment now - if he does and thinks we're better served letting him go then so be it.

I think the way the bio on the website is written could lead to some confusion.

It says he's "signed a 2yrs contract at the end of last season till 2019"... ok so presuming the bio was written at the end of 2018 season (???) it could mean the contract was for seasons 2017 and 2018 (would fit in with the NewCo formation). That means the contract is up until 2019 season and not to the end of it.

Or alternatively...

The bio was written at the start of the 2018 season (as you would think) and its saying he did sign a 2yr contract until the end of 2019 but this is wrong and it was only a 1yr contract.

Sometimes contracts contain an 'option' which is often taken as the end date but, obviously, an option is just that, an option, and might not be taken up. Maybe that is the case here?

Quite possibly. Though our media guru is also known for the occasional error so it could also be that.

Got to admit recently I think we have seen a massive improvement on the output from the club. That said at the time of them announcements I am not sure we can totally believe anything that came out back then

Last weekend Kear was asked about the new winger from Hunslet and he said we can expect to see another new winger signing soon.
If this is the case we may have someone freed up for standing in at full back when needed.
Two weeks ago Chalmers was on RL Backchat and said Kear arrived and had the squad already signed. This year he is letting some go and signing his own players.
We can judge Kear better this time next year when he has had full control.
Some of our favourites might be let go but we have to trust Kear knows what he is doing.

Hopefully they'll all be Kear choices.

The year before Kear had his best season with Batley there were fans calling for his head, but he was still getting in his own men and letting go of the ones he didn't rate.
