| The main difference between now and the early sixties is the fact that the club closed because of indifference, and the fact that no one cared. I still recall standing on the terrace with about 300 cold and lonely souls as once again we watched a non performing team at the final game of the old Northern.
At least Dave Craven's article makes one realise the club is going downhill, and a string of dreadful performances will not attract anyone. How a team can be world beaters one week, and the next a side that could be beaten by a lower league side I'd never imagine.
I would like to see one or two of the young sters have games, at least it may show that we do have some talent in the wings.

| Maybe the club need to do something to help the atmosphere, if that gets better the players may just feel we're backing them and actually start to beat a few more teams. We beat a few more teams and maybe more people come.
At Edinburgh they gave out noise sticks and some sort of clappers, surely there cheap enough to do and would be a great hit with the kids and a few others. Brand them to the club and give them away for free maybe or sell them at a nominal level or give them away to the people who buy golden gamble tickets.
Improving is a two way thing i guess and it would be nice to see the club do something, didn't some fans come with flags to us earlier this season?

Good work Mr Craven, if indeed it was your idea in the first place.

| I dunno how many season ticket holders we have this year. But it must have been pretty close to base level last weekend. If you consider that the majority of the crowd would / could have been season ticket holders and then factor in the "Kid for a quid" deal then i reckon there must have been almost no revenue from the gate against Crusaders. The franchise money for the pies etc will also have been paid in advance, so without sponsorship and the Sky deal it would have been a near catastrophe in revenue terms simply staging the game.
Oh and for the record I personally think the new song should not be Morrisey but perhaps The Smiths "Every day is like (last) Sunday"

Has he really though? TBH, there have been plenty on here suggesting for a while now that the crowd against the Taffs may have been somewhat concerning and so it proved to be.
The story was hard hitting but as Asim has pointed out, it seems to have made an impact which can only be good in the long term I would have thought?

How so?
I think that article pretty well sums up the whole sorry saga of last Sunday and certainly reflected the views of those I spoke to walking back down Rooley Avenue (although the rain which began 5 mins before the end didn't help much).
Whatever you might think of Dave Craven, deriding him for pointing out a few home truths is like sticking your head in the sand Ostrich style.

What, like beating Leeds and Saints? If the article is to be worthwhile, maybe it should reference the failure of these wins, eye-catching as they were, to signficantly boost the gate at the next home game. The whole article is a bit of a humdrum run-through of the bleeding obvious, isn't it?
Can we afford to do this? I suspect not. I see that City's much lauded cheap season ticket scheme still resulted in their chairman having to pump £1m of his own money into the club.'" The Warrington debacle at home did more damage than either of the wins over Leeds and Saints could cover up.

It needs to come from the fans! I can't get to many games unfortunately, but when I do some of the speccies (a vocal minority) are just so negative, like slagging players off before matches and spending 80 minutes berating the officials.

| RER - the Warrington debacle occured before people decided whether or not to go to the Warrington game, and the gate was still poor. You'd have thought a win against Leeds on the telly would drag people out, if performances ever were going to. I think they have a role to play but I don't think they can do it alone.

We're up to what game 6 of 13 at home? The real summer is about to start a few warm days and a run of more than two wins on the bounce and Odsal will be rocking again.
Thinking back to the days of Bullmania I didn't have a season ticket then as I do now but I seem to remember warm lazy summer nights from the games I did get to for some reason. Warrington and Celtic games were played in wintery conditions.

The crowds are never going to increase while we continue to just win a game every now and then. Only winning 2 consecutive games is never going to encourage the casual supporter to return. One win from six games at home is never going to help with crowds. Which is perfectly illustrated by a friend of mine who has travelled over from Roos for every home game for the last three years a round trip of over a 200 miles has decided even though he has a season ticket he can't justify the cost and time travelling over every home game. I now fear he won't ever buy another season ticket but will now just pick and choose his games.
