St Helens are a work in progress. I have allways said there will come a time when Long, Cunningham, Sculthorpe and Graham leave the club there will be a need to come through a difficult patch just like Wigan did when they lost Andy Farrell, Terry O'Connor, Adrian Lam, Mick Cassidy and more in the space of 12 months. All great clubs go through this and Warrington and Leeds will have worse problems in the coming 12 months to 2 years when alot of there players will be retiring like Morley, Westwood, Briers, Michael Monaghan, Carvell, Hodgson, Higham for Wire. Peacock, Leuluai, Sinfield and McGuire, Burrow, JJB, Bailey wont be too long after. Now's the time at Saints to keep bringing through these young players and recruit a hell of alot better than we have done over the past few years. Keep Nathan Brown as coach and if all these things are done properley Saints will be in a prime position too win trophies in 12 months to 2 years time. That I have no doubt.

I think we have a number of talented players, however we need to work out which combinations work best and were we need to strengthen.

Sorry I don't agree. We don't have talented players anymore. Our gamble on all things youth back fired and left us behind in terms of recruitment.

This team is very average with a bunch of average players.

Roby is the only talented player in this team.

I disagree. Soliola is talented and Lomax is talented and (granted on the basis of only one game) Percival is talented. Jon Wilkin has his moments too.

Sia is a good player. I was being a little harsh there. He's been top class for us for two years now and deserved our player of the year.

To early to judge Percival yet but looks a very good prospect.

If it is a work in progress it's some years off being complete. Lomax potentially as a fullback, Percival maybe on the evidence of one performance, Sia and Roby. Those are the only players that the club should be wanting for the long term, the rest are not of sufficient quality to build a successful squad around.

The much vaunted youth system is producing plenty of numbers, but very little genuine quality.

Feels like we are in a Brendan Rogers style rebuilding phase?

But with the salary cap how much can you rebuild?
