Seems that Saints board is becoming filled with some very rich highflying people these days.
We have long had the original Mr Big in Eamonn Mcmanus, who was a big cheese at HSBC. He was once regarded as one of the worlds 10 most important financiers, according to Forbes Magazine.
Over recent years Saints have been assembling a board of Galactico's to take the club forward.
The latest two are Mike Coleman who owns Aisling Analytics, one of Asias 10 biggest hedge funds, with assets of over $1.6 billion dollars. Now thats real Mr Big territory.
The other is Fergus Lyons who is Commercial Director of Aj Bell a company who last year made profits of £16 million, and whose owner and chief Executive Andy Bell is also on Saints board of directors.
Wonder if the pie fans will stop shouting for the salary cap to be abolished now icon_wink.gif" alt="icon_wink.gif" title="Wink" />

| Well, I should imagine one Mr Big will know lots of other Mr Bigs and so when the Original Mr Big can manage it he will use his Mr Big skills to attract the other Mr Bigs into his Big Adventure.
Or something.
If the new stadium comes off (and I really won't believe it until I'm standing on the terraces/sitting on the seat, so long does it seem to be taking) then in the long run it could be a tidy investment, depending on how much of a feature it becomes for the town.

| But having Mr Bigs on the board doesn't necessarily mean they will do anything for the club? What will they bring apart from impressive CV's? Are they going to donate any of the $1.6bn to Saints for example?

| The Hatton Solicitors Stadium, he's spending enough on local advertisment he may as well sponsor the stadium.

What they might not bring in actual cash they will bring in experience of running large multi-national companies and also guarantee any loans the club needs to get the new stadium and the foreseable future sorted.
The less we rely on one sole financier the more chance we have of seeing The Saints into the next 10 20 etc years......

| This is fantastic news. McManus sure has pulled out all the stops in assembling a board of directors other SL clubs can only dream of.
Its only a matter of time before Bill Gates and Warren Buffet join the board, given the circles McManus mixes in. Im sure wigan will find solace when Mr Weatherspoon and Mr beefeater join their board.

| They all are Saints fans too, so imagine what you would do.
If i was told i could get Inglis to saints for £1000, i'd pay it. Thats what £1 million is to these types, they could p1ss on Simon Moran's chips and laugh about it. Great news for Saints

No, it backs up what a lot of people have said, what's the point of having money people involved in the club when you can't spend it how you want?

The money can be used to build up the club and infrastructures rather than thrown at players.
The former is healthier for the game long term than the latter. Once clubs have built a profitable platform to work from, the cap can be addressed. At the moment we still have more clubs making losses than not and raising the cap will only make that worse.
We also have the most exciting and even competition in years in my opinion, every year the cap kicks in that little bit more, with some very big crowds flocking to see the salary capped players. Only the real basket cases like Quins and Salford aren't able to compete. Catalans too, but that is more down to injuries and poor coaching than the club's resources.

Because you get clubs like yours spending what they've not got and almost going bankrupt... just to keepup/stay ahead of the game.
Sad but true , clubs simply cant be trusted to manage there own finances.

I remember talking the Eamon and getting the impression that running a rugby club was not as fun as he had hoped. While also getting the impression that if he could do it all over again he probably wouldn't. I imagine that some of these board members could one day become the major share holder. But not before Eamon has increased the value of the club by getting us into a new stadium. This will recuperate the money he has invested (and a bit more) while providing St.Helens with a finacially stable rugby club.
Good all round.
