| It was bloody freezing!!!!
Lomax looked our best player but came off winded for 10 mins in the second half.
Wheeler had a good few good moments but was possessed by the ghost of Francis Meli for one of Widnes tries.
Gaskill looks like he has the tools to be a good player (without doing a great deal). He looks pretty fast.
Magennis did about 50-60 mins and looked great in defence.
Scott Moores kicking was excellent.
Back line (Foster, Dean, Soliola, Armstrong) looks quick and finished of tries nicely.
Only injury worry was Armstrong who came off with a shoulder problem.

Given that Gidley, Meli and Wellens are out of contract at then end of the season that could be our first choice backline before long.

| tbh I'd rather see Foster given a chance than waste more time with Gardner who offers very little. Before we started with the subs we looked pretty slick and I was really impressed with Ellis tbh. One thing that made me happy was our willingness to use the ball again which we lacked last season with the 5 drives and a pathetic attempt to kick attitude.

tbh unless he is very very cheap I'd let him go. He doesnt offer enough anymore and if it was a straight choice between him and Lomax I'd take a chance with Lomax, if he fails look elsewhere.

It's very hard to argue with that, the performance of both in the first 3-4 months of the season will be crucial to the difficult decision.

I'd agree but if you also factor in Wellens age even if he does have a good/solid season for us I think it's pretty obvious his best days are behind him now where hopefully Lomax has a very bright future. I'd be more inclined to keep Wello if we could use him elsewhere in the team but I just cant see him improving any other position in the team. He is far too slow for halfback or outside backs , we have more hookers than we know what to do with and his lack of acceleration would mean he's just be a distributer and way too 1 dimentional and I really honestly dont think he'd offer anything we dont already have in abundance in the back row

Unless he sudenly discovers he can run alot faster I dont think he's capable of proving he's worth a new contract tbh
