How old are Hodges and Slater because I'd be more interested in getting one of those as our big signing for the new stadium (assuming we can afford one). I'd love to see Slater over here and he would give Lomax a bit more time to prove himself.

Hodges is 27, Slater is 26.

If we're all being realistic, I doubt any (Australian) player of the quality of Hodges, Slater, Inglis or Thurston will come to any SL club anymore. 1st option will be NRL and most of the world-class ones will go to Japan RU for the payout now, not SL.

With super league as it is atm I don't see how having a massive star like that in the team on that much money would help things. Barrett was great when he was here, but we could of had 3 players for his wages. A strong squad works in super league, Hudds came 3rd in the regular rounds and made the challenge cup final just by having a good squad and playing the percentages (as they say) all year, ok they had Hodgson, a very good player, but he is no Thurston and would not demand those wages.

Saints have quality talent in their academy and reserves and should only look overseas when they need to really. Lee Gaskell IMO could make the 7 shirt his own in the future, he is a quality player!

For Thurstons wages or even Slaters you could probably get a good overseas player and an english born players as well as extending 2 young players contracts, surely that is better in the long run.

But as no-one has that money (well maybe Wire if they tap it into thier salary cap calculator) in SL to pay that sort of wage, and why the hell should anyone? You could get 3/4/5 players for his salary!
