I don't see thats anything thats not already known, if you go into any retailer at the moment you will see slashed prices, Tescos will pass much of these on to both their suppliers and cost savings in most of their arms.
Like the banks they are cutting costs, but not necassarily cutting services or projects, cutting back overheads in the current climate is happening everywhere and any company that doesn't streamline itself will go to the wall pretty swiftly.

Sadfish is right, the Ford Motor Company cut back several years ago, they are one of the few Motor Manufacturers not to take advantage of the hand outs.

They are cutting back on projects. One thing I didn't clarify is the severity of their request. The simple fact is; there isn't 20% in professional fees to take out, never mind 50%.
Tesco are actually cutting back their staffing levels with their property division. More worrying for you guys is their cutbacks in mixed-use developments:
www.building.co.uk/story.asp?sec ... de=3136663
I don't want to appear as a troll, but anybody will struggle to gain funding on non-short term capital return. I would be very surprised if the stadium started this year. I hope I am wrong though.

It does seem to imply future developments, not ones that have cleared planning etc. and i think is a slightly different situation than ours

Quite well actually.
Profits are expected to be up this year with more stores opening. Net income will hopefully be larger than the previous tax years but i do expect us to do well.

The money for the stadium is already allocated, if TW aren't interested in buidling it then why are they in the building game??????
We had this discussion the other day, this is a win win for TW, the monies are already allocated at last years prices, now everythings cheaper, they could make a mint out of it.

Indeed, leave it another 6 months and the word is that the building trade ( supplies ) will be at their all tiem low, so even MORE reason to build. WIN WIN

You are misinformed my winged one. Raw material costs are increasing, bucking the industry trend.

Not quite. Any funder would want a development reappraised especially one that has been priced beyond the past six months.

I have reliable contacts who work within some of the larger suppliers (one is in charge of purchasing for a large well known builders merchants). He tells me things are still getting worse for them not better. One of their biggest headaches at the moment is storing all the unsold stock. Says prices will continue to fall for months to come.
I have a PDF from BERR, shows the construction proces over a number of years up until Jan 2009, usefull bedtime reading. I have been following it closely as I was going to build my own home, but with prices goign down it doesnt make sense right now as the same supplies will be a lto cheaper for me in say 6,7,8 months time.

You are referring to materials in their composite form. Myself, I am referring to raw materials; steel, aggregates, sand and cement. Your man is correct in what he has in stock currently, his purchases in the next quarter, should he make them, will be a whole different proposition. It's easy to say we are in recession, whilst disregarding the weak pound's effect on imported goods.
