| It's not a good idea if the assistant coach to a rookie (under pressure and with no top-flight record to speak of) is someone who was formerly a better player, with more achievements and - most importantly - possesses greater charisma and force-of-personality.
If Wane hits a sticky patch in which Wigan lose three or four games on the bounce it won't be long before someone in the media links Sculthorpe with the top spot. If it's not the media it'll be the fans. And once the connection is established in the minds of even a small group of supporters (irrespective of whether there is ANY evidence to corroborate the claim) it'll spread like wildfire and put at risk the working relationship between the two.
I'm not saying it's impossible for Wane and Scully to work together successfully. But I don't think it's where the smart money is.

| Good move for him, seem to remember Daniel Anderson saying that Sean Long had the greater potential of being a top coach than Scully and Cunningham.

| Fair play to him if that's the way he wants to go. Royce thinks a lot of Kieron Purtill so there doesn't seem to be much chance of him getting into the First Team coaching setup at Saints. So this would be a good opportunity to get involved at the top level if it comes off

Who Murphy or Wane? If your talking about Wane then he would need to get the respect from coaching rather than his playing past. I barely remember him playing myself but I did read John Monie's book which was interesting ...
Oh and good luck to Scully if he goes. I'd like him to sty at Saints but as has been aid a man needs to earn a living

| There are only so many positions you can create to keep former players in a job. In the end we need the best people doing the job they are good at. I wish him well, hope he can earn some money and it works out well for him. We have KC, on staff, I think Tommy God does some voluntary work. If we employed everyone who was a former great there would be no cash left for the team.
In the end we all need to earn a living and there are only so many jobs to go around. With the ground work done by Keiron Purtill in the youth set up and the benefits, that has brought, it would be foolish to just replace him with a former great player for no other reason than he was a former great who needs a job.

| Before anyone asks or mentions it NO I will not be following him if he decides to go. Unfortunately there is no real coaching roll for Scully at saints at the moment. Let him learn his trade and he will be back at Saints coaching in the future. As much as I don't want him to go to the pies - he has to learn his trade somewhere to progress. Remember Mike Gregory he was our assistant coach under McCrea and then went on to coach Wigan until he became ill. Agent Scully will be back.

| When exactly did Scully become a Pie? A lad I know reckons he's at every Wigan home game and has been for years. I don't understand that, he was from Oldham wasn't he? Played for Wire and Saints and his only connection to Wigan was living there because Sean Long did and he wanted to be close to him?

His young lad supports Wigan I believe, so he takes him to every wigan game.

| It doesn't bother me in the slightest. If he was still a player in his prime I'd be gutted. He's retired now and he owes us nothing. Good luck to him.
