We stayed in the area where she went missing for 24 hours constantly, we even slept in the car there that night. We have 2 other Springers and we have other friends with dogs and we ahave combed that area every day since, even if a human didn't find her one of the dogs would. We didn't think she'd been stolen at first as it's quite remote there but the fact that she hasn't been seen since means someone has here. We'd have been informed if she'd been picked knocked down, I have spoken to both Warrington and St Helens police and councils and they have a duty to check if a dog is chipped if they pick it up after an accident. Whether or not she was deliberately taken initially or just made her way to the road and was then picked up by someone passing, it is an offence to keep someone else's dog ;
The Environmental Protection Act 1990 Sec 150 requires the finder of a stray dog to:
· return the dog to its owner; or
· contact the local authority for the area in which the dog was found
If the finder fails to take one of these courses of action, he will have committed an offence and would be liable, upon conviction, to a fine.
If the finder requests to keep the dog, he must supply the officer with his contact details and details of the dog. The officer is required to keep a record of these details.
Regulations require that the officer makes appropriate enquiries to ascertain that the finder is a suitable person to keep the dog. The finder must then be informed verbally and in writing that he is obliged to keep the dog (if unclaimed by the owner) for not less than one month and that failure to comply with that obligation is a criminal offence.
She is microchipped and this was checked last year to make sure it's still readable. I'e also been contacting rescue centres and vets daily. Reading on lsot/found dog forums it's amazing the number of people who see a dog wandering round and decode to just keep it, not thinking that someone somewhere is frantic with worry. We searched 3 miles of adjacent farmland yesterday in Bold, a farm she is familiar with but no sign again. She is very white and would stand out like a sore thumb for miles so we are 99% certain she is no longer in the area.
