The money can be used to build up the club and infrastructures rather than thrown at players.
The former is healthier for the game long term than the latter. Once clubs have built a profitable platform to work from, the cap can be addressed. At the moment we still have more clubs making losses than not and raising the cap will only make that worse.
We also have the most exciting and even competition in years in my opinion, every year the cap kicks in that little bit more, with some very big crowds flocking to see the salary capped players. Only the real basket cases like Quins and Salford aren't able to compete. Catalans too, but that is more down to injuries and poor coaching than the club's resources.
