Andrew Matthews grabbed a hat-trick as Oxford piled more misery on the South Wales Scorpions with a 38-30 League 1 victory. The Scorpions led 30-22 with 20 minutes left but saw their hopes of a first win of the campaign dashed in the closing stages. The sides each traded three converted tries as the first period ended level at 18-18, Matthews scoring two of his tries after Josh Scott had touched down for the hosts and Paul Edwards, Andrew Joy and Jordan Sheridan crossing for the Scorpions.
Connor Davies edged South Wales in front before Matthews completed his treble, though a rare missed conversion from Louis Richards kept the visitors ahead. The lead reached eight points after Ian Newsbury\'s try and Paul Emanuelli\'s fourth goal but Oxford recovered to win the game as Luke Evans, Matty Blythe and Danny Thomas all touched down and Richards took his goal tally to five.
