York City Knights got their Kingstone Press League 1 season up and running with a 44-20 victory over Oxford. Josh Tonks and Tyler Craig ran in early tries for York before Oxford hit back with a try from Nathan Conroy. James Haynes extended York's advantage and Liam Cunningham also went over for the Knights in between a pair of tries from Oxford's Andrew Hoggins. York began to take control of the game as Jack Illey and Greg Minkin went in but Oxford would not lie down and Jonny Payne claimed their fourth try of the afternoon. But York pressed home their advantage and Nev Morrison and Jon Presley went in to take their try count for the afternoon to nine.

I'm sure we have listed the wrong York player as sent off, it wasn't Jack Aldous. The York Press report states it was Pete Aspinall. It definitely wasn't Jack.
