Coventry Bears had a dream debut in Kingstone Press League 1 after a 32-10 victory over Oxford. A fast start inside 25 minutes meant new league entrants Coventry were 20-0 up - Billy Sheen, Matt Cooper, Eddie Medforth and Josh Guzdek scoring the tries - and it was only just before the break that Oxford hit back with Josh Scott crossing and Danny Allan adding the extras. Oxford reduced the deficit to 10 points following the restart with Marcus Brooker's break and long run yielding a try and threatening a comeback, but Troy Brophy's 68th-minute score put paid to those hopes, which faded once and for all thanks to Medforth's effort out wide two minutes from the end.
