| It's in todays LE apparently he's wanted in Japan to play RU.
Also Shenton has agreed to join Saints but he wouldn't confirm it.
Former Rhinos acadamy player Dave Doherty is believed to have held talks with Wire,Leeds,Wakey and Salford.
No more speculation or announcements on retain/release of the Rhinos squad as yet.

| Doesn't really make such sense considering the strengths of Ali's game is his handling and off loading in the tackle.

| Given he is applying for citizenship and has previously stated his family are happy here and his kids call it home (or something along those lines) do we really believe this will happen? They might want him, what he wants is another matter though.
Shenton, honestly, I couldnt give a rats about. Saints can have him for mine. I'd be more than happy with Delaney and Smith in the centres once Senior moves on.

| Why would be after Dave Doherty with the amount of backs weve got? Webb, Donald, Delaney, Smith, Senior, Hall, Watkins and Bush! Then theres Coady.

Maybe because eventually all players will leave/retire and need replacing and sometimes the next in line from the Academy are not judged to be of the required standard.
Doherty was a little unlucky in not getting an opportunity the first time around.

Donald and Senior are OOC at the end of the season Bush is still only part time and Coady is still very raw and likely to be on another dual registration next season.
It's also been suggested that Webb may leave a yr early so IF Doherty was to re-join his path wouldn't be so long to get into the 1st team.

| Fair shout. Forgot that Donald could be leaving at end of the year, well i mean probably will be. I never wanted Doherty to leave in the first place, looked good in the academy back then! As for Ali, would be a shame if he left, can be a real game breaker when left, worth another year or two!

Gibson was offered a contract by Leeds but he decided to sign on with Salford on a one year deal instead.
Broughton I would have liked to have seen given a chance at Leeds. Bush, who for me, is well below SL winger standard is getting some 1st grade experience at Headingley that his potential doesn't appear to merit. I know which of the two I'd have preferred to see filling that role this season. That said you can't really blame either Gibson or Broughton staking a claim elsewhere when given the opportunity of regular 1st grade rugby.

Spot on for me! We have to accept that this is one of the many elements that the salary cap brings to our game. Leeds might have wanted to keep Gibson, and the fact they offered him a contract backs this up, but when Salford are offering you a 'regular' position in their first team and, more importantly, a place probably well up in their 25 paid earners at the club for the cap, then choices have to be made, by both the player & the club!

A valid opinion but one which, in Broughton's case, didn't appear to be shared by the leeds coaching staff and which, in Broughton's case, seems to be perfectly reconcilable with

I simply highlight this as you were quite critical of Leeds about the way they handled the Broughton decision when they appear to have handled it exactly in line with the criteria you set out above.
By the way, aside from his first team appearances, what do you know of Bush's potential?

| There's very, very good money to be made out of playing Union in Japan. They might not be very good at it (for various reasons) but the game has some very influential backers and a lot of the big players in Japanese business get involved in sponsoring teams

All I offered was my opinion based on what I'd seen of the player. If I were Gary Hetherington I may have made a different call but there again if I were Gary Hetherington I'd have had much more information to make that judgement. All we know is that Broughton ultimately wasn't retained, does any of us know the reasons why?

I hear he's a promising plumber. I could do with some advice in that department, as my deadline for getting the bathroom finished has lapsed several times already.

| Broughton has a good job in construction which I understand he is training to be a surveyer or something along those lines. I understand he can still fit this around his rugby at Salford. Dont think Leeds offered him a contract in the end.
Not proven in the Leeds first team and IMO in the end moved on to a lesser team which I expected. Some thing like Ratu. Salary cap works but we cant keep them all. We are a little light on the wing at the mo but does anyone know Chisholm is advancing as I dont watch the second team ?

Sorry but i disagree with this. The outside backs is one of the positions that we have plenty of cover.
Not only have we got Donald and Hall but we know Smith can play there. Coady is a young developing winger as is Bush and there is always Jones-Bishop who could play there if needed when he returns (despite being a specialist full back). That's not to mention Watkins who can do a job out there when back fit.
I think we have a lot more options than most in SL in the Wing department........
