| Nearly joined the Robins that season (1985/6) but chose to reunite with Peter Fox at Leeds instead and led from the front on an epic seven game Challenge Cup run that ended with a semi final defeat to Saturday's worthy opponents.
IIRC he eventually retired at 45 having never played in a CC Final.
Do it for the 'Jeffasaurus'
Leeds could lift the trophy this season with a fourth victory - haven't checked but I imagine that would be a first.

| Quote ="RhinoNeil"I've said to myself many times over the past 3 weeks that Its only Hull KR, any given SL round you'd put money on Leeds to win no problem. Are things almost going too well for Leeds to win like they should? With Sinfield leading the team out back up by JP then you should think there will be absolutely zero complacency.
I think something else is the drop in quality that Hull KR have faced over the past 3 weeks. The tackles they expect to make in the qualifiers won't quite be as easy. The collisions they would have been winning will be harder to earn. And biggest of all the tempo will no where near be as slow, given Leeds are the fastest most fluent team in the comp with 20+ offloads coming there way. A fresh rested up Cuthbertson will be looking to give half of those by himself.
Leeds fans really should have nothing to worry about but it won't stop my nerves on game day.'"
I agree regarding your point about our opposition within the qualifiers, but what you have to remember is that since we beat Warrington in the semis we have always had the Cup final in our mind. And the 3 wins we have secured in the qualifiers was due to playing defensive rugby and grinding out a win with a alternating team selection that always had one eye on the cup final ......Our team's main goal this year was to reach the CC final and we did so by raising the standard of our defense and attack against top Super league sides in these one off games, we did it once and we can do it again. Also, we all remember that time when Leeds finally reached the Cup Final after many years to put to bed their CC hoodoo and turned out a performance that wasn't fitting of the occasion and the magnitude of sending their senior players off with a winners medal that they rightly deserved ......Anything can happen within a one off game!
And as for the rugby that Leeds are currently playing, I must admit it is the best rugby I've seen since the old days and, in my opinion, they are without a doubt the best and most entertaining side within the game at the moment and a joy to watch, but Aiton at dummy half has been a major part of this in blowing teams off the park within the first 20 minutes through his runs and switching of play. He causes confusion within the defensive line and consequent offloads are almost certainly a result of this, but he is not playing and instead Leeds will have a Hooker on cup final day who is more structured and less likely to cause confusion within the defensive line .....All these factors will play their part on Cup Final day!
Will Leeds freeze in knowing that they are the overwhelming favourites? ......Will Hull KR freeze by being overcome by the occasion? ......Will Leeds blow Hull KR off the park with their expansive rugby? ......Will the focus and determination of Hull KR within the CC competition win through in the end and bring silverware to their club? ......Will the absence of Aiton effect the manner in which Leeds play? ......Will playing an unfit Kelly be Hull KR's saviour or their weakness? ......So many questions!
The only certain answer is to the question "Will the fans of Leeds and Hull KR enjoy their day out, love each other and paint our capital with the colours of Red, White, Blue and Yellow?" ......Damn right they will!!!! ......See you there, People!!!!

| I'm a 'glass half full' person when it comes to specific games - especially finals. I shall expect the worst and hope for the best. When I used to attend games live it got to the point that I'd think we'd still lose unless it got to the point where it was physically impossible. Like 30 points up with 2 minutes to go. Its weird, as a kid I believed we could and should win every game, regardless of evidence to the contrary.

We've had a few CC disappointments...which one is this a reference to?

| think he means the cas game. it wasn't a fluid exciting display but it was a hugely professional display in which the game plan was executed to perfection. we dominated the game from start to finish. i'll take that on saturday

| Hull KR are having a homecoming irrespective of result on Sunday. Leeds are only having one if they win.
An insight into the psyche of both organisations?

7.30am isn't it? Or you can get the National Express from town at 8.30am. I have learnt from my error last year when I lived 5mins from the coach station yet booked on the club coach as I didn't know about the National Express option when booking!

Be careful you don't make any kind of noise on either form of coach. Folk don't like it.
2 of the most "joyless" experiences I have ever had travelling to games.

Oh you should have tried coming home on the National Express after the game last year.
Couple (both Leeds fans) had a blazing row because she was being drunk, loud and annoying and he was getting fed up with it. Finished with him asking the coach driver to pull over in St John's Wood, getting off and making his ow way home.
We then had four hours of her leaving him tearful voice mails (at the top of her voice, obviously), telling the driver that she needed to stop for a wee at every service station on the M1 and generally being an absolute pain the backside to everyone else on board. All because neither of them could handle their drink and in the process managed to spoil it for everyone else.
I'll swap you a "joyless" experience for that any day of the week.

| Coach..Never ever again. I made myself that promise after the 2012 Wembley defeat. The coach is a long, uncomfortable and joyless affair indeed. So when you think its all over as you can see the Wembley arch as you're around junction 4 of the M1 only for the coach driver to take an early exit and be bewildered that he has pulled into the services for a 45 mins break...10 mins from Wembley. Total utter VVanker...
This time it will be my first experience of the train down to Wembley.

| We decided never to go to Wembley on the coach again after 1998 (I think). We go for the weekend and it's the only way to get there for us. We are going down on Thursday this year, because we enjoy it so much, we wanted an extra day. The cancellation of the tube strike was greeted with much rejoicing.
I've never used the train for a one day visit to the final (although I have for Internationals and Leeds games at London, and it's no hassle, and loads better than the coach. You get longer in that there London too.

| The club coach last year was relatively sombre both there and back too.
I don't have a huge amount of choice - couldn't find any particularly cheap train travel and am unemployed at the moment. Moving to Glasgow in a few weeks for a new job so am back on the coach up there all day on Sunday. Thankfully was able to get a cheap train ticket back to Leeds later in the week. If I am still up there in a year and Leeds are in the final again, it might be as easy to fly - coach will be out of the question though!
It is just easier for me to get National Express this year in particular, as I have to get to town from LS27 before setting off.

| Problem with trains is the short notice between the semi-final and final means it's hard to pick up any cheap tickets, unless you're prepared to go down at 6am and come back at midnight.
Did anyone go on the charter train the club put on to Murrayfield for the 2000 final? Had to stop virtually every ten minutes to let a scheduled service go past, was like something out the 1950s inside with the laminated wood tables and old-fashioned seats.

I've been on train twice. Once was 1995 I think to Wembley. The other was one of the Cardiff finals (the Hull FC one I think) where the charter train got delayed at Doncaster station for at least an hour. Made it to the stadium with about 20 minutes to spare (and then wished I hadn't)

Yes. I nearly had a fight with a Bradford fan who didn't understand the concept of irony when I replied to his remarks about Leeds being 'yids'.

| we normally drive to peterborough then catch the train in from there but we drove to watford for the wigan vs hull final only to find the train washed out and a supposedly hour long coach ride to the nearest working train line, after a 3 hour runaround we finally got to our seats 10 minutes into the game and saw probably the worst final ever

| Our favourite hassle free route to Wembley is to drive to Warwick Parkway (easy on M1, M69 & A46) and get the Chiltern Railways train direct to Wembley Stadium for £29 return. Two trains per hour, takes about 1 hour 20 minutes and parking at the station for £5. This means you avoid the busy bit on the roads both ways and a very quick return journey if required.
