Walker was crap against Hull kr just like the rest of the team. Yes he made a great tackle but the rest of the match he was poor. Hopefully a week off will do him some good and he can push on

Think we need to give Sutty and Myler as much time together as we can, then bring Callum on to rest one of them. Tui looked ok at 1, but by including Golding there is some flexibility in case of injury or poor form. Would like to see Albert at 13, he seems to want to play with the ball rather than be a running prop so play him somewhere he can. But who knows how DF is seeing it.

By the way I have absolutely no favourite in this team currently, and don’t believe a single one would get a game in our 2005 side.

My take on Walker is the kid is a great talent but right now little more than that. He can be brilliant and awful, sometimes in the same game, and is exactly what you’d expect of a young 19 year old prospect.

He needs to work on every area of his game, more so defence where he isn’t quite strong enough or aware enough yet.

It’s a long time since I’ve seen a 19 year old fullback with so much talent, and I’m glad he’s a t our club.

Walker will make & has made mistakes but he's the least of our problems. Ive seen Webb make plenty of errors & further back Harris before anyone wades in aswell its not a direct comparison just a point about even better players make mistakes.
Our Coaching ,Defensive structure & overall quality of the squad need sorting long before we blame a 19yr old FB or stick the boot in because he's rated by plenty.

A very balanced opinion there Batley and it is probably much the same as the opinion that I have of Walker at present.

IMO Walker is miles ahead of where Golding is at present and that he will not be surpassed by him as starting FB at the Rhinos, although the Jury is still out on both players and quite rightly so, but IMO only one of them is of SL standard at present.

Walker has the potential to be a great SL player down the line, but IMO talk of him getting an NRL gig are vastly premature at present.
Golding could also get a chance at FB at the Rhinos and improve out of sight in that role.

The other option at present that i wouldn't completely rule out is that both players could actually be surpassed by either another home grown player currently in the academy pathway or by an overseas signing down the line taking the starting FB role

The FB role is definitely Walker's to lose and with improvements to his game,then it is his role for the duration of his current contract and possibly beyond

Agreed. The discussions about Walker are a bit of light relief over the current season and I hope we get to look back on how well he has developed at Leeds in a few years time.

I fully believe he has talent (I did watch the whole game, albeit not in one go BTW and fast forwarding through chunks because it was at different times boring and embarrassing). Due to this thread I've rewatched the KR tries a few times, and IMO Walker was not up to scratch on 6 out of 7 of their tries. Thats my opinion, if you think differently good for you.

Whilst comparisons to the NRL are difficult, one thing that struck me when I've had a look is that most NRL fullbacks don't even debut until the age Walker is now. That may be why they look more like the finished product on day one. Given the relative quality of Aussie vs British fullbacks, learning the trade in a lower pressure environment seems to be the better model.

Good to see a chance for a bunch of the younger players to have a crack. Whilst I don't care about the cup itself, particularly this year, it does give a chance for these lads to show what they can do, and train and play with the first team. From that perspective it might not be the worst thing to get through a few rounds.

Candidly they are not a Hardaker, no where anywhere as good as Brent Webb, both need to learn, but if they have the right attitude, temprememt and willingness to learn, they will grow into quality Players. How good is Walker, he can catch the high ball, good at one on one tackles, great going forward, however he has a poor kicking game as shown at HKR, funny thing I never saw any experienced player pull him to one side and tell him straight to keep the ball in play from the kick off and the drop out. What he did was inexcusable, no idea what got into his head., his goal line defence is poor, he was never in the frame for most of their tries. It's pointless saying at his age he will make mistakes, you can't make mistakes of this magnitude when we are letting in 6/7 tries. Unfortunately he is still a young lad, he is learning, he is getting better, but he won't get better when the team is getting hammered every week. The lad needs a rest an arm around him and some one on one quality coaching and if that means dropping him and playing someone else in the short term then so be it. After all do we want a quality player in a couple of years time and for the next 10 years, or do we want to end up seeing him going downhill because he has been pushed to far too quickly.

Rob Burrow has confirmed on Twitter that Muizz Mustapha, Owen Trout and Callum Mclelland all make their debuts tonight.

In trout and Mclelland case, I think we would be wasting an opportunity by not starting with them, if we put on the bench. They should really be starting the game, then change if do not work.

As much as i would like to see these youngsters play I dont want to pay £15 after our recent performances. That really isn't like me to miss a home game but that's how despondent I am right now about the level of our play. Also Saints v Warrington on the goggle box is the one that is going to get my time

Gives me a chance to go in the Southstand again for a change.

It is a game where I am confident in seeing us win (a rareity these days)

I really want to see the youngsters have a run.

I agree. We know Sutcliffe is not the answer at 6 so IMO we need to see what McLelland can do in a full game. I would tell him he has the full 80 minutes barring injury. To pull him off if he makes a mistake would send the wrong signal especially as this has not happened to our previous stand offs during a game despite their many errors.
