| I think Farrell may yet become good enough for Test rugby. He’s still only young. As tigertot’s other half says to him size isn’t important.
As for McIlorum I don’t see it. He’s too ill disciplined and isn’t as quick or as crafty around the ruck as Roby or Lunt or even Higham.

He simply isn't big enough for test rugby. Name me one outstanding world RL back rower at 15 stone? The only comparable player is JJB, arguably international class, but he is far more mobile & runs hugely better lines than Farrell. My point all along is he needs to put on a couple of stones & become a prop in the Andy Platt mould. He is far too rigid & inflexible in his movememnts to be a Paul Gallen size loose forward.

That's you banned from the inbred board as well.

he's adds a nice portion of bite to the Ozz team. He whacks people seems incidental whether the hits legal or not. Smart footballer and skillful ball player. The back of their pack including Thaiday and Gallen is formidable to say the least.

Exactly, size & weight isn't everything but it does help.
I doubt that he's that much bigger or heavier than Farrell but he makes up for that in other ways.
I thought that Thaiday had one of his quieter tournaments. Not as rampant as I've seen him in other series.

| I had hopes a few years ago of joe westerman being the man to replace gaz ellis in the England team. Yet another whose early potential has not blossomed.

| I watched Bird closely on Saturday as he was marking SBW. I also kept an eye on Gallen. They are each twice the player Farrell is & physically much bigger. I can't believe Gallen is only 16st, which is what his wiki says, the guy is built like a tank.

| Personally I think Farrell is a brilliant player. First quarter of last year, he was by far the form player of super league. He fully deserved his selection in the world cup squad.
Whether he kicks on from it, time will tell, but would have him over Ferres and JJB any day personally. But do think Tigertot makes some valid points.

Ellis was also a major international disappointment given the plaudits he received from Wests.

I agree but think that might be down to how Wests played him as opposed to England. There was a tribute video that Wests produced that showed him running some devastating angles that I never saw over here.

Another young player from the Castleford area whose off field exploits have hindered his on field performance.

| I thought that none of the 'reserve' forwards looked good enough. Burgess x 2, Graham, Hill and O'Loughlin were clearly at a different level from the others, although Ferres looked OK in the game v Oz. Westwood I think is seriously overrated just because he plays rough and gets bloodied - he's a far dumber footballer than his Aussie counterparts (on the pitch at least).
The others however - T Burgess, Farrell, Mossp, Ablett and co simply weren't good enough. T Burgess and Farrell are young enough to improve, and Mossop may kick on at the Eels, but I'd genuinely hope we have better options even for the end of next year.
The reserve hooker is also a problem. Roby is head and shoulders the best we have, but his inability to play 80 minutes really hurts England, as the subs just aren't close to his standard. Even if they were, we end up having to play a hooker on the bench (even if a utility like Burrow) instead of another big forward.
Roby could do worse than watch the way Smith plays. There are entire sets where he doesn't even hint at moving from dummy half, and lets the odd PTB be served by someone else - he's a genius at taking breathers.

Don't agree with that at all. Love him or hate him, and he is towards the end of his career, but Westwood if anything is massively under rated. He is a very good player, and one England have benefited from.

Where does it come from that Roby can't play 80 minutes. Reminds me of those so called experts on here when Buderus arrived, telling us he doesn't play much game time because he isn't up to it, only for it to be shown two years further down the line that he was well capable of it, and infact paramount he did it.
Just because England chose not to utilize Roby for 80 minutes, doesn't mean there is an inability to play 80 minutes.
