| I didn't go (prior engagement) and I haven't watched my Sky+ yet but having read the above I can imagine it all. I can perhaps explain the booing?? - Sam Tomkins makes everyone's (except Gooner's) toes curl! He has such amazing skills, pace and talent but all admiration is completely wiped by his underhand tactics, near-cheating, his ability to con refs, his seeming intention to injure players he's tackling, his arrogance and his 'ratboy style'. He is a nasty piece of work on the rugby field and I could go on. That's not what RL fans cheer - it's what we despise. Sadly he is an example of all that needs to change to make RL proud again. Who needs the BBC to give it a bad name?

Please, please, please get t-shirts made with this printed on them. I would love to see all the away support in them in a few weeks at the DW!

Tomkins:
He deserves the booing, why should we cheer someone like him?
He's paid to be professional and take the abuse, not that he does. He's the worst sportsman in the league. Flipping V's when winning, squirting water at away fans when losing and making rugby as laughable as football when he plays for penalties.
Boooo!

| He is the most talented player we have in this country at the moment and stupid things like booing him will only drive him to the kick and clap, what an embarrasment it was to hear the boos everytime he touched the ball

You want the remix, it somehow makes it funny.
Back to the booing, it shouldn't happen but it does, why is anyone that surprised? I mean Sam Tompkins isn't popular with fans of other clubs and it's not the first time a player has been booed while playing for England.
I can remember Danny McGuire getting booed at Wigan in 2009, Terry Newton getting some right grief at Knowsley road in 2006 and some others in the past but without RLfans going into meltdown or fans of those players getting so precious.
It's always the same at international games, the club bias comes out every time especially if we're losing.

seriously, its not a suprise he gets boo'ed, hes a prat, a great player but a total prat on the field. hes like the new Shaun Edwards, you want to see him smacked every time hes on the ball,
on the game itself was never gonna be a classic, it was only ever a friendly, not a S.O.O match

that's a Saints fan from a border village....
Overall, i thought the game last night was good for the concept (which was rubbish) (dont know why i'm posting this on the Rhino's forum)...
Sam Tomkins is a good player, but last season did his reputation no favours at all. Convincing enough that even the wife couldn't see him doing anything wrong, but certainly did when I pointed out the hand trapping. Respect that you've seen little of Sam this season (i've no doubt you don't go to Warriors home or Away games unless we're playing you), either someone's had words, or he's watched back and though "that aint good", because I haven't seen any of it this season yet. He played effectively last night, but listen back to what Eddie & Stevo were saying in respect to who was calling the field for The Exiles. Who worse to call the shots against you than one of your very close team mates (T.Leuluai). I'll admit, he does have a hunger to score, and perhaps that is his weakness, he'll run the line looking for a gap rather than passing or kicking the ball to make play. At both club level and country level, this happens, and probably lost us an opportunity or two last night, and has certainly cost Wigan an opportunity or two, but he's young and he's time to develop yet. What I cannot condone is people cheering at rough tackles which can potentially cause career ending injuries (twice last night he was dumped on his face). I'm not saying it's purely Leeds fans, there's isn't a club in SuperLeague who's fans don't hate Sam Tomkins, but there isn't a fan in SuperLeague who's fans wouldn't like him in their team! Danny McGuire is a slightly different story as his injury against us was obtained whilst taking Pat Richards off the ball illegally (hence the penalty kick), compounded by the shaking of the posts by one of the Leeds players. Not saying anyone was right to cheer (personally I didn't), but an injury obtained whilst doing something stupid or illegal is "more deserved" than an injury just because you don't like him.
In respect to captaincy, no offence but I think both coaches made a mistake with their choices of Buderus and Peacock purely down to the fact that they're club team mates, that is going to almost certainly have an impact on their on field play. Bananaman confiding in Peacock was just silly, there's a lot of guys in the England team who are more experienced than Peacock, captain at club level and/or have captained the England International side. A captain, for me, has to stand out and be the great organiser on the field... I can't say I noticed between Peacock being on the field, or off it.
I can't say I watched last night's game thinking "smash em, cave their heads in", because Club over Country, I didnt want any injuries out of the game, but I did watch it thinking, in regards to a number of players, "jesus, that's some talent there".
Internationals are a time to embrace the talent we have in our country and support them, not a time to boo them and defame them. Let's face it, England will always be the under-dogs in International RL, but with the right coach, and the right group of people, and the right game play in place, there's no reason why we couldn't come out on top (or nearly).
As far as Internationals are concerned, give me the best players from any club. As far as Club is concerned, we hate Leeds.

| I wish I'd gone and joined in. It was like the 1994 (I think) GB game against France at HQ, when we booed Shaun Edwards mercilessly. And GB won that game by 70 points, I think. It was tremendous fun.
Eric Van Brussel scored France's only try, IIRC. Oddly, I can remember that, but could only guess at GB's scorers.

Well Moz would've been the obvious choice.
There's also James Graham (though i dont personally rate him, he's done "the job" before)

Sinfield would've been a better choice, but then you'd have had the club team issue again...

We can argue that Peacock should or shouldn't have been picked given where he is in his comeback but Buderus, ex-Australia and ex-NSW captain, was the obvious and only sensible choice to captain the Exiles.

I never said that Buderus was a bad choice, i said that the two of them together was a bad choice. The club thing is purely down to the fact that they know eachother's thoughts and plays. Any advantage that would've been gained is counteracted when both captains are from the same team.
It also makes it less of a realistic "international".

Not only booing ... There were various allegations of nocturnal activities that might involve toilet tissue to mop it up, sung at Edwards most of the night At one point, he had the timerity to 'applaud' the SS, where upon the floodgates of 'stick' opened Compared to that, what our banana-booted friend got was small beer.
IIRC, at that game in 1994, 'Sprouts' got the biggest cheer of the night .... Was it him or the other winger, Cyrille Pons ?
I'm not condoning what went on and wasn't booing myself, but it's not the first time this sort of thing has gone on and its not just at Leeds.
For the record, whilst there were Leeds fans in the SS, there were fans of many other clubs including Wigan and a sizeable Hull FC contingent. Given where most of the singing comes from at Leeds games, to me the booing seemed to come from elsewhere (like down the sides) rather than at the back.

Saw it on BBC the other week, He tried to wrap his legs around Ah Van but wasn't strong enough, he got dumped and looked silly. He also kept running off the mark to make out he was being held at the PTB, so much so that he got instructed by the ref to stop it.
