| I wonder which of the game's top try-scorers currently playing didn't score more tries against weaker teams. I would think the fact that weaker teams generally concede more tries than stronger teams make it virtually inevitable.
Even if Danny McGuire was a one trick pony (and I don't think he is) then it's a bl00dy good trick, and if it was such an easy one to master then everyone would do it.
On Edwars, I detested him, and I don't think he had anything like the talent and ability of Schofield, but as Brisbane Rhino said, he was an arch competitor (still is, as a coach) with a pathological will to win. If we'd had a few more players in that mould rather than stellar talents divided into small cliques we might have had a bit more to show for our outlay during that time. 10% inspiration, 90% perspiration and all that.

| Quote ="The Eagle"Surely the role a half should play is to make tries happen. I think McGuire does this in spades, both scoring individual tries, supporting others' breaks, and delivering tries with good final passes.
I never quite understand the whole "he's rubbish, all he does is score tries" argument. Sure there may be better technical players, with better skills, but the experts will tell you that converting breaks or half breaks into tries is what makes the difference, and that's what he brings.'"
exactly i doubt there has been a player involved in more tries since mcguire started playing for leeds regularly

A fairer way IMO to establish 'McGuire's victims' would be to look at his scoring ratio rather than a simple count of tries. Such a basic count could become skewed towards the teams Leeds face more regularly.
When excluding teams that McGuire has faced fewer than 5 times in total (including substitute appearances) Bradford would find themselves eigth on that list behind:
London/Harlequins (1.33)
Castleford (1.22)
Widnes (1.17)
Les Catalans (1.14)
Wakefield (0.86)
Salford (0.80)
Huddersfield (0.79)
Bradford (0.69)
Prior to Sunday Bradford would have been tenth on said list
Warrington (0.67)
Wigan (0.57)
as the five tries has had a disproportionate effect when added to the previous twenty eight appearances V that particular 'victim.'
McGuire has scored at an average ratio of at least one try every two appearances against all SL opposition he's faced with only two exceptions. Those two may come as a surprise to some.

To make the ratio fair and useful to the argument it'd be necessary to balance the data by dividing the above figures by the average number of tries-per-game conceded by each team against all opposition, or at the very least against Leeds, during the time McGuire has been playing them. But I wouldn't expect anyone to do that.

| What a comedown tonight for Super League's pre-eminent flat-track bully.
Might be easy pickings against the likes of Bradford last week, but not against Wigan - not even when they've got their reserve grade pack playing.

Sorry.
I meant how many errors and missed tackles tonight Danny?

Hopefully he will be fit and back to his dominant best in time for upcoming games against Wakefield, London, Cas, Widnes etc

Double standards here G.
You berate posters for slating players you rate (Burrow ,Diskin) yet yer happy to jump on the swiftcorn bandwagon and stick the sarcastic boot into one of the best players the club has produced in the last 25yrs and one who has continually played a huge role in our success

What have I said?
I've reported that he's injured for Friday's away game to Warrington (fact) and written my hopes that he returns to his usual dominant self for the upcoming games. There's no finer sight than to see Danny at his majestical best. It's a shame he couldn't produce that on Friday but if he gets fit I am sure he will do so in the coming weeks.
It couldn't have been a more positive post.

Even though it's not being said in person you can sometimes sense the tone with which something has been written.
I thought adding the ''Wakefield, London, Cas, Widnes etc'' was a giveaway.

A giveaway of what?
After Friday's game away at Warrington is out of the way are they not our upcoming fixtures?
Surely, I am not the only one relishing the prospect of Danny being healthy and dominant again in those games?

McGuire was poor on Friday, but there was literally nobody who excelled themself. If anybody should have been spared the further embarrassment it was Sir Kev, poor lad had a shocker, harder he tried, the worse he got. It happens.
McGuire set up our try in the first half, yes Tomkins walked round him once, but you can add 4 or 5 players to that list throughout the game. As the team declines, Danny, Kevin and Rob will all start to fair worse against the better teams. To imply that they are 'flat track bullies', after their records in big games throughout their careers, is plain daft, and I assume an attempt to suck up to AP, who is back now the trolling going is good.

They've a real pedigree in big games with a decent collection of Lance Todds and Harry Sunderlands between them. And didn't Danny get the man of the match back in 2005 against Canterbury in the WCC?

True dat.
And while McGuire might not have won a Harry Sunderland to match Burrow's and SInfield's, he can't have been far away in 2007, when despite not scoring the crucial tries I thought he had his best Old Trafford performance, and was the match-winner in 2004 and 2008, coming up with the big tries when they were most needed in tight games.
Flat track bully my hairy a**e.

'" Sums you up that you gain pleasure from that display. Must have pleased you to see the team fail so abysmally as long as your hero wasn't tainted.
FWIW, without agenda, Sinfield was terrible but Burrow was excellent, IMO. He offers something, whether from 7 or 9 that nobody else at this club and virtually nobody else in the league does. He displays more heart and courage than most of his team mates. Did you hear his coach in the post match interview say he wishes he had more like him?
That you can't recognise that because of your infatuation with Danny is a bit sad really.

Your inability to recognise McGuire's contribution to the team borders on the pathetic. Nobody can ever take your comments regarding agendas seriously as no one on here has more of an agenda against certain players than you - Kirke, Buderus, McGuire to name but three. Maybe you should be more even handed about your criticism and not allow your favourites under your radar?Your agenda would not be so obvious then.
I would like the team to win but that isn't the be all an end all for me - as I have said numerous times before - I want to see elite players playing the game to elite level. Unfortunately this is not happening at Leeds at the moment. McGuire has played in many of the worst team performances this year and I have said he is not the player he was and also if its best for the team to release him that is what should happen. I enjoy watching him play in the way you enjoy Burrow he has the ability to make things happen in a game.
On Burrow he does have that spark of genius and that only works when he plays 7. Unfortunately if the captain has to play 6 then you are not going to see it because you need all 3 to get the correct structure. You have regularly stated the captain is an untouchable so there is your conundrum.

I don't agree that Burrow only has that spark of genius when he plays 7.
Last night he gave a great ball to Sinfield from dummy half for his try and scored one himself running from the base of the scrum. Both plays not usually done by a 7.
Imo Burrow is one of the best in SL at running at the defence. He gets the best opportunity to do this from quick play the balls out of dummy half or from offloads. 2 things we are struggling to do atm.
BM got the best out of him towards the end of last season whether he came on at 9 or 7. The pack were performing much better as a unit then though.
