He's invented something called a margin-meter. It's a stats-based system that tells you, in play, who's going to win the game and by how much.
The highlight of this was when, with Widnes 4 points up around the hour mark, Clarke enthusiastically revealed that the margin-meter currently said that Widnes would win by 4.

| You've got to love the Sky attempts to improve informational graphics but ffs I'd wish they road-tested them off-air first, iron out the kinks before inflicting them on the viewer.
I've only watched the opening twenty so far and have had to walk away before I threw something at the screen. Adding names at random to the drives is just too farcical to be true. Sometimes drives were allegedly been taken by members of the opposition team, on one set of six Dean (Widnes) made all six carries ..... fooking appalling.
If Opta are in anyway responsible for those graphics then it's time to give up.

| Was it me or does Ali look like he's lost a few Lbs? I was very impressed with his performance but then again, he has been a great all his career. Why should that change now.

He did look quite trim. Must have played at least 60 minutes too.

Struggled with cramp towards the end.
Have their been any comments re the pitch?
A number of players seemed to get grass(?) burns from the pitch on their knees & elbows.

| I think they will learn from the pitch and all it needs is tape or elbow/knee pads to sort that little dilemma out. The players didnt seem to do any complaining at the time. It was just sky pointing it out.

| The Wakey players were probably more concerned about the bloodshed caused through attacks to the head by Cross & his henchmen.
Widnes lack pace & will be ripped apart by the top clubs.

| Cross appeared intent on fully justifying the Leeds management's decision to release him early into his debut season.
The justification for signing him in the first place will forever remain a mystery.

| Can't see why you're all knocking the margin meter. It's half-time prediction was very close as far as the winning margin was concerned. OK, so it got the winning team wrong, but many great inventions are subject to the odd 'teething problems'. I'm confident an intellect as mighty as Clarke's will soon iron this one out.
Once he's sorted it, the RFL could adopt Margin Meter as a sort of rugby equivalent of the Duckworth-Lewis to decide the result of games abandoned at half time due to floodlight failure.

| The 'margin meter' has had a flood of offers for sponsorship deals: William Hill, BetFred, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Stan James, Victor Chandler are all vying for a piece of the action.

Indeed. Cross simply can't control himself and has no business on a pitch until he can. Was I mistaken or did they make him captain? Guffaw etc.
Amor was impressive as was Ali in the first half.

| Just watch this game and Amor was very strong in the first half. In the second he was simply awesome and turned his blood to water. very strong drives and meteres made. Also he eas all over the pitch in defence. Absolutely different class and the man of the match by far. On this showing i am sure he will be in for a big season and would expect the sleeve to bring him home at the end of it. On this showing he is typical of what every pack needs 'a work horse' and a maker of hard yards. Also Wakefield were very impressive for the first game of the season, not many teams will enjoy a trip to the rapid solicitors this season like they have in the past. A good blend of youth and experience and two very competent half backs and a quality hooker in Aiton.
Widnes played OK in the first half but disaplin cost them in the second half. Average half backs to the team worked hard. Overall too slow and over the course of the season the better teams will blow them away. Wooden spoon I am affraid nailed on !

I have not seen Mathers tweets, however if it is to do with players suffering burns, I would have thought the clubs would have provided the players with the right protective clothing, ie something on the line with clothing worn in the NFL.
If he is going on about the play of the pitch then it is the same for both sides.
