| Just thinking back to Furner, maybe he was the wrong man at the wrong time. What he tried to do may of been correct in the wrong way, we will never know but if someone tried now maybe it would be received differently and have different results.
We were awful under Furner, much in the way Warrington are now under Powell. Time will tell, if allowed, if Powell is the right man at the right time for them too

| The ability of any senior coach to turn us around is also dependent on how much freedom they are given by GH. If he’s only looking for a head coach, then he could get anyone and it wouldn’t make a huge impact long term. If we bring someone in with the intention to turn the club around, they must have autonomy.

Agree.
I despised Wigan under him.
The style of rugby was awful to watch.
Not much better with Wane tbh.
Neither of them for me.

What have Souths and the Tigers been like under him?
Genuine question as I haven’t watched a lot of NRL over the last few years

Souths OK, but Tigers poor.
I work with an Australian guy who follows the Tigers and hates him.
That brand of 'playing on the edge' rugby can't survive in the modern SL.
It leaks penalties and 6 agains - we do enough of that as it is.
I think they get away with more in the NRL - our officiating (and guidance from the RFL) is stifling any sort of aggression in the game.
Those sort of players will struggle to have an impact over here - Tetevano for example.

That’s simply not true. They are getting 10 mins and reported every game too. Tet had been disappointing, and he needs to sort this out himself….

| Maguire at Souths had Inglis, Reynolds leading the team around and the best three Burgesses at the top of their game, especially Sam, who played like a man possessed the year they won the GF. The style took its toll physically though and once sides worked them out they were gone. At Wests he's seemingly involved in a long-term culture war within the club, and has offloaded a lot of players. The real problem there is just lack of quality in the squad - no coach could make them a contender.
So a no from me. I don't think we've got the players to play a physical game, which is a bit out of date anyway, and he'll find the culture issue possibly just as bad at Leeds as Wests. He's also currently head coach so he wouldn't be interested.

| Your not going to get a top Aussie coach your going to have to go for an assistant on a 3yr deal? Nobody had heard of Holbrook & Woolf before Saints signed them. Get rid of the jobs for the boys in the coaching and start a fresh. (then again if you keep giving contracts to the likes of Prior who is robbing a living then god help you)

Never going to happen - if Maguire is sacked he will almost certainly want a break from the game.
Moreover as discussed above his style is well past its sell-by-date.

Prior and Oledszki are playing injured,in a team with no other props for most of the games so far. They being flogged every game so it's no suprise.
We need a hard hitting prop badly

Don’t think you can get NRL on the radio . I watch highlights of every NRL game on YouTube.
I watch live Leeds games when I can. I listen to them on
the radio when I can’t as the TV experience is not worth my time. I do other stuff (cooking ) a same time.
You seem to like the sound of your own voice, but don’t like having your opinions challenged. And if you really are my great mate Ian Simpson from the golf club, I’ve called ya bluff…..

| Never understood the whole "if you weren't at a game live you can't have a view" stuff. Does that mean nobody can comment on the NRL or every SL game they're not at, or CC game, despite full games and highlights being available of pretty much every game? I've been around long enough to know what I'm watching - even try highlights speak volumes about quality of attack and defence.

Agree about not being there, but watching highlights or tries gives you very little insight. You see the instances where a busted line or pressure told on the scoreboard, it doesn't show how tight or leaky a defence was for the whole game for example. In terms of analytical I think TV is best as you get closeups and replays etc, but watching live gives you a better big picture view of what happens away from the ball which often get missed by the cameras

| I don't disagree about try highlights, but I meant that even those do give you a good idea of where a defence is at, particularly if you see the plays before.
Peter Smith pointed out that if you take away the Wakefield game we're average just 9 points per game. Last year our hookers topped the try count, which is ridiculous. A lot of this is down to lack of forward power - you get a fair few easy tries over a season if props are regularly bending the line. Also complete lack of ambition on last kicks. Can't remember the stats but most teams score a lot of points through kicks. Not even bothering to try is just a recipe for not scoring. That seems to have been an Agar brainwave.

Interesting point on tries and last tackle plays. Our last tackle plays are shocking and have been for some time. It's, in my view, the worst part of Leemings game in terms of decision making, as he rarely finds a halfback on the last tackle close to the line.
I've watched a couple of NRL games this weekend. The top teams seem to mix really well the set plays where everyone is moving in attack together, and playing off the cuff, with quick players seeing what's in front of them and going for it. Most SL attacks are far too predictable, most lead runners aren't barely jogging forward and it's obvious where the ball is going. Some of the tries from the Melbourne and Paramatta this weekend were nothing short of incredible. It's like a different sport! Hopefully an austrlian coach can bring some of those qualities.
