| Perhaps G1 will care to name a date when Bradford became Leeds' victim?
IIRC this particular Leeds' victim entered the Magic Weekend having won our two most recent encounters.

I never really saw what was so good about edwards.
I just remember highlight videos of him scuttling round the park like an obnoxious goblin with a scowl on his face.
I'm so glad the late 80's and early 90's was abit before my time i'd have gone mental watching the game week in week out at that time.

He won lots of medals, which according to some Wigan fans, makes him a great player, and better than, say, Garry Schofield.
Interestingly, if you use the same argument to explain why Sir Kev is better than O'Loughlin, it ceases to be a valid argument.
He was a classic flat track bully (i hate myself for using that term) and was nothing at International level. His greatest contribution was getting sent off at the old Wembley for a disgraceful high shot.

Edwards was a good player in a completely dominant team. He certainly wasn't as good as Schofield (as shown by their performances on level playing fields in the NRL or in internationals) or Gregory or Hanley from his own side, and that's just the half-backs.
If you'd have put a decent club player of the time, someone like Graham Steadman, in that Wigan side they'd have won exactly the same amount of medals as Edwards and the Goon fans would have churches and shrines to the spirit of St.Graham.

A disgraceful high shot that arguably saved a try and contributed to a famous GB win though.
IIRC Ewards record against the Aussies and Kiwis was around the 50% mark which if correct would look pretty decent by recent standards.
Edwards IMO was a pretty good player in a very good team. The comparison to McGuire is fairly apt. Schofield was IMO a great player in a clique driven team - unfortunately he also was the one doing the dividing most of the time.

| I think most non-Wigan fans (including me) downplay Edwards' ability to a degree because Wigan fans are generally so ridiculously OTT in rating him. What I think non-Wigan fans tend to underrate is Edwards' competitiveness and will to win, and how much that was a part of Wigan's dominance during his time there.

| Danny McGuire has been an excellent player for Leeds during his time in the side. He record speaks for itself, tries in big games - as much as some would like - cannot be erased from the record books. It would also be interesting to compare his try assists to other notables amongst his peers in the side
A classic stand off he probably isn't but his ability to read the play is unmatched in the modern game. Without his try scoring feats Leeds would not have won the GF's they have. If he had not played to the standard he did in 2010 the Rhinos would not have made the play offs - that comes from his captain.

| Surely the role a half should play is to make tries happen. I think McGuire does this in spades, both scoring individual tries, supporting others' breaks, and delivering tries with good final passes.
I never quite understand the whole "he's rubbish, all he does is score tries" argument. Sure there may be better technical players, with better skills, but the experts will tell you that converting breaks or half breaks into tries is what makes the difference, and that's what he brings.

| I wonder which of the game's top try-scorers currently playing didn't score more tries against weaker teams. I would think the fact that weaker teams generally concede more tries than stronger teams make it virtually inevitable.
Even if Danny McGuire was a one trick pony (and I don't think he is) then it's a bl00dy good trick, and if it was such an easy one to master then everyone would do it.
On Edwars, I detested him, and I don't think he had anything like the talent and ability of Schofield, but as Brisbane Rhino said, he was an arch competitor (still is, as a coach) with a pathological will to win. If we'd had a few more players in that mould rather than stellar talents divided into small cliques we might have had a bit more to show for our outlay during that time. 10% inspiration, 90% perspiration and all that.

A fairer way IMO to establish 'McGuire's victims' would be to look at his scoring ratio rather than a simple count of tries. Such a basic count could become skewed towards the teams Leeds face more regularly.
When excluding teams that McGuire has faced fewer than 5 times in total (including substitute appearances) Bradford would find themselves eigth on that list behind:
London/Harlequins (1.33)
Castleford (1.22)
Widnes (1.17)
Les Catalans (1.14)
Wakefield (0.86)
Salford (0.80)
Huddersfield (0.79)
Bradford (0.69)
Prior to Sunday Bradford would have been tenth on said list
Warrington (0.67)
Wigan (0.57)
as the five tries has had a disproportionate effect when added to the previous twenty eight appearances V that particular 'victim.'
McGuire has scored at an average ratio of at least one try every two appearances against all SL opposition he's faced with only two exceptions. Those two may come as a surprise to some.

To make the ratio fair and useful to the argument it'd be necessary to balance the data by dividing the above figures by the average number of tries-per-game conceded by each team against all opposition, or at the very least against Leeds, during the time McGuire has been playing them. But I wouldn't expect anyone to do that.

| What a comedown tonight for Super League's pre-eminent flat-track bully.
Might be easy pickings against the likes of Bradford last week, but not against Wigan - not even when they've got their reserve grade pack playing.

Double standards here G.
You berate posters for slating players you rate (Burrow ,Diskin) yet yer happy to jump on the swiftcorn bandwagon and stick the sarcastic boot into one of the best players the club has produced in the last 25yrs and one who has continually played a huge role in our success

What have I said?
I've reported that he's injured for Friday's away game to Warrington (fact) and written my hopes that he returns to his usual dominant self for the upcoming games. There's no finer sight than to see Danny at his majestical best. It's a shame he couldn't produce that on Friday but if he gets fit I am sure he will do so in the coming weeks.
It couldn't have been a more positive post.

Even though it's not being said in person you can sometimes sense the tone with which something has been written.
I thought adding the ''Wakefield, London, Cas, Widnes etc'' was a giveaway.
