| Quote ="Juan Cornetto"I did not suggest simply making wholesale changes. The signings we could and should have made were to the key positions like a playmaking half back which would have transformed our performances as we have seen from other sides.
A class playmaker can make ordinary players look better than they are. Two or three class signings plus giving the promising youngsters game time would have transformed out performances.
So I do not accept that 3 years is required to turn around our fortunes, that is just an excuse for poor management and bad recruitment.
My comment about Furner is that his head coach experience was poor to say the least and he had the dubious honour of coaching the team to the most consecutive losses in its history and in finishing second to bottom was the worst finish since the clubs debut season in 1982. He was sacked as a result and has only been offered assistant jobs since 2013 until Leeds came along in desperation. So rookie might not be the right description but you certainly wouldn’t say he was a successful top coach either.'"
You point suggests these players are available and want to come and play for Leeds - perhaps neither Austin or Hastings wanted to play for Leeds? Class players both Merrin and Hurrell are quality signings.
You can only change things around if you can release players either through transfer or contract expires, Tui has been a disaster and he is here for 2 more seasons after this - that is why I said it will take 3 years
I would agree Furner has much to prove but you cannot say he is inexperienced.

Awful signing. I knew virtually nothing of him personally before he arrived not really noticed him at international level, and what i have seen so far for us its hard to fathom how anyone could think this a guy to lead us into a new era playing in a key position. Thankfully as said the other two have been our best so far.

I doubt if we seriously went after Austin or Hastings. I agree about Merrin and Hurrell but they are not controlling halfbacks which should have been our first target.
You cannot say Furner experienced a lot of success as a head coach either so in that important aspect he was and still is a rookie.

| We certainly went after Austin, he’s on big money at Warrington that we wouldn’t match.

Went after Austin, ended up with Lolohea. How badly wrong can we get things?

Probably Gary Hetherington’s worst decision while at the club

Hastings would have dropped everything to be signed by our DOR - he was practically begging Leeds to sign him:
Quote I grew up watching Leeds and the likes of Danny McGuire, Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow – they were sort of the reason I started watching the Betfred Super League.
“I was lucky enough to listen to a speech that Kevin Sinfield presented to the team while I was at Sydney Roosters and just the way he spoke made me realise just how highly respected he is over here and definitely in Australia, also.'"
Quote And he has already been left starstruck after meeting Leeds director of rugby Kevin Sinfield, who he listened to intently in a speech while at Sydney Roosters, after helping demolish his side 38-22 on his debut.
Hastings, who takes on Hull KR in Salford's first Qualifiers game on Friday, added: “I grew up watching him play – he’s held in very high regard in Australia, over here he’s one of, if not the greatest player to ever play.
“I went up to him after the game and said, ‘I’ve got a lot of respect for you and it was an honour to play against a team you coached.’ I’ll keep learning from him.“I’ve always been erratic with my emotions and he told us how to control a game and all the hours he’d put into his body, I got a massive amount out of it.
“I’ve spoken to a lot of people about players and Kevin Sinfield would be up there. To get praise of him, a bloke you put ‘Sir’ in front of, is one of the better moments I’ve had.”'"

| If it's the same this time next season i would agree but i think it's right to back him and give him a chance to have a full pre season get his own guys in and weed out the garbage. We have a generally poor squad and he was lumbered with it.

I agree with you at the moment. Surely an NRL experienced coach can’t be behind our woeful performances, it’s got to be the poor quality players. I hate to see a coach sacked tbh...

| Results and performances are pretty poor. The squad is also pretty poor. I think further will stay at the club whilst we are not in serious danger of relegation.
We are close, but with over half a season to go have lots of opportunity to improve. It's not that we're great, just London are very poor, are in a bad run, and don't have the resources that Leeds do.
If we swap places and are still bottom with ten games to go, panic may set in and a shirt term motivator in the John kear mould may have to come in.
Assuming we stay up, a bad season is better long term than a reasonable one. Finishing 11th skies that there is still lots of work to be done and lots of dead wood to remove. The club shouldn't be shirking the hard decisions needed for next season. I'd redirect that about now we start taking about renewals. I can't imagine many conversations happening at the moment

Disagree. The squad is better than bottom 2. Sorry but it is. We have spent big money on 3 or 4 signings. Should be doing better

| The squad is e, it’s about where it should be out of the 4 “big signings 2 of which are amongst our best players. Tui is crap and Ava who knows yet. I don’t think furner is the right man for the job but also the squad is crap

| Players have to take the blame for attitude effort & the sheer will to defend.
Furner is still culpable for selections tactics etc & Sinfield/GH culpable for recruitment & retentions.
Its a complete cluster at the moment & there's too many to blame. A cull is needed aswell at least 2 additions to the FT 1st team Coaching staff.

| The spine of the team is poor. Fullback stand off and scrum half are all pretty poor to be honest. Suppose walker has time on his side but for me I think he is over rated.

| Clueless in defence.
Furner hasn't a clue how to fix this problem.
Give him a one way ticket back to Oz

| It’s difficult to judge Furner based on the glaring mental weaknesses we have in the squad as well as the lack of playing ability. He can’t be held responsible for the lack of cutting edge of Watkins for example, who as well as being Captain is our go to back to come up with some magic.
Our spine is very poor, and the forwards aren’t great, but it’s the lack of mental strength that’s doing for us most of all because as soon as there is any pressure on this group they fold.
Very very few coaches could turn this bunch into even mid table whilst they have all the mental fortitude of sloppy custard...
