Holliday is an excellent shout from that era (at Fax also). Harry Pinner was also a brilliant player who never really got his due, but he was class at Saints and then conducted that frightening Widnes pack and ran the behemoth Bradford pack for a couple of years. John Cogger at Oldham, and that player who only had one arm at, where, Swinton? Runcorn? A one-armed RL player has got to be an unsung hero somewhere down the line.

| Peter Smith at Fev is a very good call - one of those players who looked good in virtually every match.

Derek Bridgeman?
Formerly of Queens ARLFC, Sheffield and Bridgend among others IIRC.
I'm not sure you could put Roy Powell into this category, given the amount of international caps he won.

Having done a bit of googling, the player I was thinking of was Kerry Gibson.

| My all time unsung hero is Batley's Paul Storey, imo he should have played top flight rugby because he was way too good for the lower leagues.
It's a shame that only injury stopped him signing for the saints whilst Murphy was coach there
Other unsung heroes imo are players like Malcolm Alker,Roy Powell & Keith Mumby

Jon cogger was a top player. I was only young kid when used to see him play but always liked him.

Has been for some time IMO. Andy Wilson referred to him and Scruton as the most effective pair of props in the competition at the moment. I must admit he may have a point.
I always thought Glanville was very underrated for you guys. McKenna too. Was just talking with a Leeds fan earlier today on just that subject.

| Very good points made!
We have a few....
Carmont and Bailey are both underated. Lockers has been underated for sometime but he is sheer class.
Many of our young players at the moment are playing superb but probably don't get noticed by other fans.

The whole point of the thread is NOT to big up your own players but to recognise those players from other teams & other eras to whom posters felt the term could apply.

| Hard working second rowers seem to get over looked.
Chris Mckenna springs to mind. Great tackler. In this area technically brilliant. when he played for Leeds I always told young un's to watch how he tackled. Copy book. Proper old school. He really put everything into the tackle. We could do with more of that now. we just seem to 'tackle'. We don't make the most of this opportunity to turn the screw on our opposition. Bang 'em , put the shoulder in etc.
A 2010 unsung second rower would be Jason Golden or possibly Luke Adamson (prop/2nd rower).

Good call he looked knackered in the warm up but always put a shift in.
Steele Retchless he was a tackling machine.
