Hard to argue with that really. Although IMO perhaps Tom Briscoe should consider himself lucky to be on the wing, with only 18 tries. Compared to say, Ryan Hall (25) or Josh Charnley (21).
Feel a bit for Michael Monaghan too but Roby a worthy 9.

Hall unlucky in my (Leeds based) opinion. Briscoe done more defending but Hall up in both tries and try assists. I know which stats I'd rather my winger had.

Unless the tries were scored purely by the winger themselves, which is not true in the majority of cases, then tries scored should not be purely the reasoning for picking someone. You only have to look at the actual stats of Briscoe and Monaghan as an example and see the contribution Briscoe has made in comparison. It is huge. And you only have to wonder just what he would have achieved had he been in the Warrington team. Briscoe is clearly the best winger in super league at the moment.

You have seriously undervalued the massive contribution that a good kick return and offload can have on a team. Have you seen the amount of offloads and tackle busts the guy does in comparison?

Which says more about Super League than it does anything else.
No Leeds at all in that dream team. Probably rightly so by our standards. Although we've had a better season than Hull & Catalans.
A few Leeds players who I think were unlucky to miss out....
Ryan Hall - Consistently in the top tries scorers for the past 3 years. The best finisher in SL. The only player that stood a chance of actually making it this year.
Ben Jones-Bishop - Only 12 appearances meant he was never going to make it. Nor will he win 'Young Player of the Year', but IMO if you could pro rata the performances he'd be in with a shout for both.
Carl Ablett - SHOULD win 'Rhinos player of the Year' in my opinion. Not the sort of headline grabber that will make the SL Dream Team, not this year anyway considering the position he plays, but up there with the best this year.

| As good as Briscoe is Hall has "outperformed" in all our games this year and Bjb made him look very average for his try in the CC game.

| I haven't been blown away by Yeaman when I've seen Hull play this year. He is finding his way over the try-line, but he's looked very shaky with his defensive positioning when I've seen them. Maybe that was just the games I saw though, I've hardly seen a representative sample of Hull games.

I don't really think what team you play for should matter. Look at Chase and Cas. Leeds have had a much better season than Cas, but can we really say at stand off we have been better?
As is always said, individual honours will always be sacrificed for Carl Ablett because he put's the team before self every time. IMO had he for instance been at loose all season I would have tipped him as probably been better than O'Loughlin. But unfortunately he hasn't been there so the lad never got the chance.
Hall's done is job and been very good at it. But it just so happens that other wingers in the comp have also stepped up to the plate this year and put in some terrific performances. There is only two spots available, and IMO rather than Briscoe the debatable spot is Monaghan, but only because of the level of competition.

Unless I am mistaken the spots in the dream team are based on a 27 round super league season, not including challenge cup games, and not based on Leeds v Hull games only.

| Hall should have been there. He is the best winger in the comp, IMO.
You could argue a case for Ablett.
Otherwise, that is it.
It's Buderus's omission that I find most shocking, considering we've been told there's not another 9 in this competition to lace his boots.

__________
When was the last time Leeds didn't provide a player for this fantasy team?
(I don't have the selections from 1996/1997/1998 so genuinely don't know if or when it last happened.)

| Would be interesting if Leeds or Huddersfield went on to win the GF (unlikely I know).
Pure assumption here but I can't imagine a Grand Final winning team without a single representative in the Dream Team has happened before?!

It hasn't ..... not yet.
Bradford came close when winning from 3rd in 2005, only Jamie Peacock sparing the selectors blushes if sparing is the correct term.

Quite right bloody disgrace - but no doubt Cameron Smith will take note as he takes Roby to the cleaners once again in the quad nations.
I can't believe Sinfield is not in it, how could he ever have been overlooked!!
He could have done his party trick and walked hand in hand with Tony Smith on the Leeds to Liverpool canal and the ship canal to the presentation - with Gareth walking/bowing/tugging his forlock on the tow path in appropriate recognition of such giants of our game

I can see why you would say that given the 'helpful' link you've found on the SL website.
But (and why is there always a but?) as I'm transfering that 1998 team on to the spreadsheet I'm thinking to myself 'this line-up seems awfully familiar' and like it would as I'd only just copied the '96 line-up five minutes earlier.
Bad enough them having Paul Broadbent at St Helens in '97 and having me question my own sanity (as you do) but to have a then current rugby union centre in the SL dreamteam had me thinking someone's taking the p[iis[/is.
Not your fault but I think I'm still looking for the 1998 SL Dreamteam and expecting it to be rammed with Leeds players ..... if anyone can oblige?
