Totally agree - It's mouth watering to think of Hall/Senior on one side and Delaney/Donald on t'other.

Donald also has a new contract to work for. Should a great year for us down that side.

I still remember his first season and I'll admit it, I wanted shut of him as he was poor. But he has turned it around and I've eaten my own words. I think he has been one of the best wingers of the Sl era. He isnt flash he just does the job. i expect a big haul from him this year now he has a recognised centre inside him. Not that im knocking Smith, but Smith tended to go for the line instead of looking for the pass.

I agree - 1st season i was waiting for him to break the line and run the length of the pitch but it never really happened for him, his second season was much better and he reall pushed on since then, with Senior inside him he scored trys for fun, Smith, yes liked to score himself but I dont get that impression from Delaney, very much looking forward to the Eastwood/Delaney/Donald combo's

I wouldnt say his first season was poor. In some areas he was better than 07.

Wowwee. That would have really proved beyond all doubt that he'd had a great season.

I don't agree, I think he played well in 2006 (he finished top scorer), the team as a whole underperformed that year and Donald had a very bad game in the CC semi final loss to Huddersfield (IMO some other Leeds players were just as bad that day) which I think sticks in people’s minds from that year, given that he's been switched sides and quite a lot in his Leeds career I can't see many wingers who could have done much more.

As someone who defended him a lot 1st season, but now thinks he is average, I would like to see that comparison.

Edit now seen the stats (dont know how to put a picture on here). Just as I thought, he was far better in 2006 to 2009. Could never understand why he was critisized in 2006, same way as can't understand why he was not more last year.

Interestingly, did not know you could compare the same player before over different seasons. Compare Diskin from 2004 to last year. The gulf is enormous.

He wasn't "far better". Simply going by the stats he was "slightly" better in 2006 than 2009.


Other teams have always usually attacked down our right hand side, for 2 reasons:
1. It's easier to pass to the left
2. Senior isn't defending our right hand side.

Did you have your eyes shut? I as looking particularly at tries, metres, and errors. But to be fair, he did play 3 games less last season. Which makes the errors even more of a difference.

I've acknowledged that going simply on the stats he was better in 2006 than 2009, but your assertion that he was far better is way off the mark. He was better in some areas and worse in others.

Yes the kicks are an issue, but when Ryan Hall was on the right wing he struggled with kicks as well, due to reason #2 that I gave in my previous post. Senior gives his winger great protection in defence both when the opposition have ball in hand and from kicks.

You missed the bit off your quote, where I said I was particularly looking at Tries, Metres, and Errors. There is a huge difference in all 3. I actually gave a bit of leeway by the fact I said he played 3 games less last season, which will account for some of the metres, and to be fair maybe a try. But if using the less games then the errors is an even bigger concern. And is the very reason why I have changed my view from good winger to average. The errors in the most are inexcusable, and stick in the mind big time.

So if his stats improve again you'll upgrade him to good once more?

There is not a huge difference in tries. In 2006 he scored 17 from 28 games, in 2009 he scored 12 from 25 games.
There isn't that big a difference in metres when you take into account he played 3 less games.
In 2006 he made 2065 metres or 73.75m per game. In 2009 he made 1735 metres or 69.4m per game.
4m per game is not a huge difference.
The errors made is a big difference, yes.

But in 2009 he:
missed less tackles
conceded fewer penalties
made more line breaks
and bust more tackles

than in 2006, even in 3 fewer games.

He may have been slightly better in 2006, but the "far better" assertion is as much bo!!ocks as Peacock's fictious injury.

Made 1848 metres more than Donald
Scored 17 more tries
made 14 more clean breaks
made 35 more tackle busts
made 44 more tackles even though someobdy told me the oppossition attack the right more.

I would think only a dip would even try and compare the two.

As your last paragraph says, it might have been your worth researching it properly before posting, kind of makes you look silly if you don't.

Having a closed mind is never a good starting point in my experience.

Donald has every chance of having one of his best seasons for Leeds as he once again has a genuine centre at his disposal.

I don't dissagree with that tvoc, as I posted above. But a good academy prospect could equally have had a great season outside that genuine centre.
