Both Kolpak and Bosman are eponymous for the rulings that significantly changed how sport players were "administered", after going through significant legal process.

They have clearly forgotten the precedents already set by SBW and Sam Burgess.

Why what party line is there on the Wakey forum? haven't been aware of one, or that it's really changed over the years. Still the same kinds of opinions going on whether they're negative or positive. For a change there's more positive than negative things to talk about.

I'm not sure there's been a precedent exactly the same as the way Solomona's gone about things. I'd say the SBW incident is the closest to the Solomona one, even though both of those cases you mention were players moving from Australia to Europe, rather than English League Club to Union. With SBW when he did one to France, in the end Toulon just chucked the Bulldogs a load of cash to make the problem go away, I'd imagine that's what's gonna happen in this case, maybe not as much cash mind. Burgess is different he was given permission to leave Souths and try his hand at RU.

The RFU are essentially claiming there is no need for RU clubs to pay transfer fees to clubs from other sports, regardless of the country they are moving from/to.
Burgess was only given permission to try his hand at RU because Bath paid Souths £270k. He wasn't allowed just to walk off into the sunset.
Likewise, Toulon paid a significant sum for Williams (eventually).
Therefore, the precedent of RU clubs paying transfer fees to RL clubs for players under contract is set.

Where do they claim that? We know players have moved from RL to RU before and got fees.
Anyway I was just pointing out, none of the others went about it the same way as Solomona has. By announcing a silly retirement from RL just to push his move to RU. His case is slightly different, hence why it's going to Court.
Like I said the SBW case is very close to the Solomona one and hopefully it end's in a similar outcome. I'd have to look into it more but I don't remember the French RU getting involved in that case , I thought it was between SBW, Bulldogs and Toulon.

(I am aware of the registration to play RL) and the club can keep hold of it for the period of the original contract.

Does that then stop me from playing any other sport (for a wage)?

I was listening to Rugby Union Extra on G.M. Radio for an hour and they were struggling with an answer.

Starting to think Rugby League in the UK will only exist as an amateur sport in 10 years time, we are being dwarfed in resources by Union and the NRL (which only cares about itself) we're tied to the same relatively low TV deal for years, with little other funding streams and a governing body that can't even promote our few big events properly.

You can walk away at any point.
If the club keeps hold of your registration that would prevent you from playing for any other RL team.
You could play for any other team in any other sport. The RL registrations are only binding to RL clubs.
However if you walked away without the permission of your club you would then be in breach of your contract with them. They could not pay you and you could be liable for any costs associated with that breach e.g. A transfer fee, loss of profile/marketing etc at that club.

In addition to that if another club or organisation actively encouraged/helped you to breach your contract, they could also be held liable for those costs. E.g. Sale

RL needs to start putting in their contracts that if a league player signs for a union team a fee will be applicable.

As previously stated, this is a massive minefield, if the ruling goes the wrong way for RL it could be devastating.
