Sadly Mal you are 100% correct and this is the issue giving RM full control over the club pretty much, which in my opinion is a huge mistake.
Everyone can see where the team needs to strengthen and several key positions needed looking at a long time ago (half backs), players have been offered and turned down. I'm also led to believe there are no plans to strengthen this area again as the coach rates what we have....
That to me is an issue if the club truly wants to nove forward and attract more fans, as it needs to improve the squad.

| Quote ="Greg Florimos Boots"The big question though is has Marshall taken us as far as he can? How much of the team spirit in the camp is on him? Obviously the defence is a great testament to his coaching on the flip side our attack also shows the downside of his coaching. His recruitment can only be described as average at best with still a lot of players that Harrison signed and a lot of the younger ones the work of Martin Gonzalez. I do think he has done a good job but Im not sure he is the person that will take us to the next level. If rumours are to be believed 3 senior players have highlighted failings in the team with suggestions of improvements all to be ignored when it comes to signing players.'"
Totally agree and personally I think a fresh approach is required as I dont think RM is capable of pushing us forward. Another deadline day passed with questionable signings who didn't add anything to the squad, making our middle 8s campaign a struggle.
I'll also led to believe Tangata was a little miffed by RM who brought him back too early last season which resulted in the more serious injury being picked up then being offered a contract that was less than his current one but incentivised by how many games he played. Widnes may get a blinder or a player hardly on the field... time will tell

| Quote ="Inoffski1"Balance those who have performed with the likes of Bennion, Mammone, Bouregba, Mikey Wood, Tyler Dickinson - I could go on.
With regard to half backs - Danny Yates, Corey Aston, Brambani, all could do a better job than the incumbent no 7. Big opportunity missed last year when Atkin wanted to come from Swinton'"
Bennion did us a job. Mammone probably came cheap. Bouregba was a punt and probably unseen. The rest loan signings to bolster squad and obviously RM didn`t like what he saw and didn`t follow up.
Aston wouldn`t improve us at all. Brambani , we saw what he could do years ago and he went. Atkin went to HKR full time.
My point is half backs better than ours are like rocking horse pop. We have searched and scoured i am sure. Wait and see what turns up.
RM has only so much money to play with and finding players that can improve the best part time team isnt going to be easy.
Lets support the club and its decisions and then pay to watch , cheer and sometimes give our opinions on the squad.

| Don't forget Matt Place. Two of the three Aussie signings paid off, unfortunately the one that didn't was the halfback.

| Some people need to get a grip of reality. When a club like Leeds with finances available struggles for halfbacks what chance have we got with a much lower budget?
So come on then, who would you replace Marshall with? What halfback would you sign? Who should be the Director of rugby?

Leeds just paid the wrong money for the wrong HB in Myler....
The fact of the matter is that the HB position is a clear issue for us, it's the elephant in the room. Another Fact is that RM has been offered over the last couple if years: Atkin, Yates, Andy Cain and even Todd Carney (when we were DR'd with Salford), all of which were turned down. More recently Aston too. RM doesn't feel HB is an issue which for me is an issue when it's clear it's where we need to improve and pretty much everyone has seen.
RM for me personally isn't the answer, I'm not a fan and I never have been plus i think he's taken us as far as he can....

We could do a lot worse than Grix/Murrell and in all likelihood they or one of them will be our next coach once Marshall moves on.
Regards half backs I also feel we should be looking to bring in a hooker and as soon as Leigh went belly up I would have been straight in for Liam Hood, another who we have had the chance to sign in the past. Similar to the halfbacks one or two hookers could be named that we dillied and dallied over and ended up missing out.

As I see it. The club orRM seem to be of the opinion that the most expenceively paid player in the squad has to play, wether they play good or not.

With some players you don`t notice just what they do until they don`t play. For years i wondered what Jack Scroby did until he stopped. Same with Karl Harrison until he would miss a game......
We all know the limitations of players. It a case of pick the ones who give you the most.
I wonder if the player you thinking of was nominated for Champ player of season by his peers.

Next couple of weeks should reveal what RM is thinking for next year.

| In regards to the half backs; I like Ben Johnston - He offers something different. I like Scott Murrell - He's a leader.
However, I think a lot of people over look the importance of a ball playing full back. I bet there aren't many who singled out Jonno or Muzza as having bad games when QLT played the few games he did. He sparked our attack and the halves marshalled the forwards around the pitch.
On the same point, it was the same when Grix was at loose forward - it takes the pressure off the half backs having an extra pivot.
My opinion - Either play Grix at loose forward and keep Sharpy at full back or play Grix in the second row, Sharpy on the wing and bring another skilful fullback in. Moss has been solid but he doesn't offer much spark does he.
Just another point on Muzza - he's lost that yard of pace now so puts him in a vulnerable position when defending out wide. Is it time he moved to loose forward? Maybe an option but just a thought.
Last thing, I'd like to see another Dylan Nash type centre at the club.

Don't the backrow do all the running about, cover tackling and takeing the ball up He could do a better job upstairs as Football Manager helping RM out IMOP.

Presume by him you mean Murrell - His job isn't to be taking the ball up, or even necessarily "doing all the running about". It's to control the game and control his players. I agree with the "cover tackling" which eludes to my comment about moving further infield.
I think Murrell will be more of a coach than a Director of Football. Very knowledgable when it comes to the game and how it should be played.
Then again, who's available to take on that position - who knows.
Here's a question for everyone - Would you rather see an oversea's player come to the club or a director of football be instated? I bet it would likely cost the same amount of ££££

| A mate who went to the Leeds game who hadn't been for 15 years thought Jonno was our best player. I can't remember the last time anyone on here was happy with our half backs. Even Ben Black and Holroyd got loads of criticism, and people (at the time) were happy to see the back of Brambani and Robinson. Our real problem is having no strike centres or full back, which was highlighted more than anything when we played the SL teams.

I remember it well, as well as Ron Ryan. Other half backs who got caned included Paul Handforth, the late Danny Jones and Luke Branigan. Penky got his ear bent when tried at half back, and I also remember many saying "he's not really a stand off" about the great Chris Anderson. Johnny Blair help beat Wakey in the CC but he "kicked too much". You probably have to go back as far as Mick Blacker to find the last "moan-free" Fax half back. But then again maybe further back still to Bruce Burton or Stan Keilty.
