Yes. A neighbour of my parents (A Doctor who lives in another county) owns a two up, two down property. He bought 8 years ago and its never been occupied. Squatters (i use the term loosly, more like junkies) moved in, it took the Council months to get them out. The Landlord has been issued twice with a bill from the Council about clearing up the front garden and back yard. The wall to the back yard has tumbled down and he refuses to rebuild it. All of the streets unwanted bulky items end up in the yard along with needles, other parafinalia and bodily fluids. The Landlord still refused to do anything about it. He's had offers from another landlord who owns a few hours down the terrace but the asking price was ridiculous. When the Council sent him a letter regarding compulsory purchase he then put the property up for auction. It sold yesterday for 50% less than what he offered the neighbouring landlord

Nor has the AEI.'" have seen their incomes fall against the rising cost of living over the last 30 years" and the evidence that backs this claim up. | Quote ="Mintball"But what about the productivity of the Barclay's boss? Has that risen 4,899% in 30 years?'"
More lefty clap trap - the boss of Barclays gets paid what the market determines he is worth - do you honestly think Barclays pay 2m more than they have to secure his services. I know you think any man and his dog could do this job but you are wrong - there are few people who could run an organisation that size and complexity. His pay is in line with many CEO's of similar sized businesses. Compared to some of the salaries in similar companies in other countries his pay is modest. Compared to top soccer players - let's not go there, this is simple supply and demand economics.
Have Barclays profits risen in 30 years, have their share values risen, have the dividends risen has their liquidity risen etc this is how you measure his productivity - it is about making the correct decisions.

Yes. They are all about income inequality. Not about how incomes for all but the very top have fallen against the rising cost of living over the last 30 years. These are two completely different things and the latter intrigues me, hence why I asked for more information on where this particular statistic comes from.

Do you remember the expenses that you insisted all those carers etc were getting?
Do you remember all those times you've been shown, by various posters, to be incapable of comprehension – or just in possession of things that weren't facts – but then mysteriously failed to acknowledge?

Why is it that reactionaries are so often barely literate? Is it just an indication of how things are in the 'real world'?

The rising cost of living has been greater than the rate of rising pay for all by a tiny number.
A quick search under 'falling wages UK' reveals all these links.

They all appear to be referring to the short term and as we are in the middle of a recession it's hardly surprising. The claim was that [iover the last 30 years[/i income has fallen against the cost of living.

If that's down to the recession alone, then why isn't it impacting on those at the very top too?
I have access to Google – here's another search: 'falling Uk wages 30 years'. There's plenty.

It could be argued (indeed, has been argued) that low wages can cause recession.
It's a valid point, if people don't have money then either a) they don't buy or b) they borrow to buy.

| OOOOOOOOhhhh sorry for having an opinion.... sorry if it goes against some of your thoughts, but why should someone on benefits be allowed to claim and earnmore than someone doing a full weeks/months work for doing nothing for either the community or the economy. not made up but fact i know of one individual who in benefits and other allowences "earns" £1856 per month, and does nothing for it! how do i know because this scrounging individual is a cousin, one i add i have no respect for. our welfare system breeds idleness and corruption, i have no doubt many people deserve the system, but they should also have an incentive to get out of it too.

I watched the TV programme on BBC 2 about the Welfare State a few weeks back. One married couple, both unemployed, with three kids got in total £21000 per year in benefits (that included their housing benefit).
I sat down and worked out our family earnings. I work 37 and 1/2 hours per week, my wife who does non paid voluntary work and we have four kids. Including the family tax credits I get I was less then £1000 per year better off then the family in the programme and I have more kids to provide for.
I'd argue that it's not benefits that are necessarily too high, it's ty wages that are far too low. However it does annoy me that if I gave up my crappy paid job and decided that it isn't worth working like the people in the programme I wouldn't get any dole money!

For me that'll be when they find a cure for rheumatoid arthritis. That'll be my incentive to "get out of it".
