The browser on the Kindle is awful. Or have they updated it recently? I got my Kindle about a year ago and it's horrendous as a browsing experience. Everytime you move the screen it flashes on and off as it redraws the content.

| Hi guys,
I have an acer aspire 5920 with windows vista home premium on it. Recently I've been having a lot of difficulty with it. Everytime I try to log on, it starts to load the desktop then just completely stops and crashes. No mouse movement, no saving grace from the ctrl-alt-del, nothing. I don't know a lot about the technicallities of laptops, and I really am stumped as to what to do. I managed to run a full scan and it didn't come up with any virus problems, but now can't run anything else and would like to try de-fragging it.
Any help (if it's possible) would be gratefully received.
Thanks

| Boot up in safe mode (F8 on boot), it will load just the basics. Does it freeze then? If not I'd recommend you run Malware Bytes and check your start up items (msconfig).

Thanks it hasn't frozen and managed to get on msconfig... What are the requirements for a basic start up? There are about 33 programs running according to the start up tab on msconfig

| right, i've ed up and dropped my phone(nokia 5800) in water, it appears to be working 99.9999%, the only problem i have is that i can't connect it to my pc/pc suite to remove my texts and back up contacts.
i can connect for image transfer and mass storage with the usb cable, but when i choose pc suite, its makes a dud duh noise and disconnects, it knows it there, just wont recognise it.
i'm with 02 and i've just been told blue book isn't available anymore but there may be some software/sites on teh net that i can use for backing texts up like this.
Any suggestions anyone?
thanks

Connect via Bluetooth, if your PC/Laptop doesn't have an adaptor you can pick one up in Poundworld.

I'd kill everything that's not important, which on most system's is everything except for any AV product you've installed.

Ok thank you. I got rid of a few and managed to open the defrag but then it crashed about 10 mins into it. I'll give it another go tonight

| I wouldn't worry about defragging, if it's crashing randomly (not just at start up) your HDD is probably fried by the sounds of it.

Indeed, if it crashed during a defrag then it is 99% certain the drive is on its way out.

| How do you mean crashing issues? Page won't load or Chrome becomes unresponsive and you have to close? Does it happen on any other sites or forums?

| When I click in the reply box and press return to give myself a line of space, the cursor line disappears. Then when I click back into the box the page becomes unresponsive and crashes.

| Grr. I'll just sit tight and wait for the next updates then.
Cheers.
Plus, you don't happen to know how to get my MacBook to start displaying what stickykeys are currently pressed down again do you? It stopped since I got Lion.
System Prefences says they are showing, but they aren't.

| How long are wireless routers supposed to last, or is that a daft question?
Bought one last year to replace another that died after about 4 years, and this one (Netgear) is now getting very temperamental and drops the signal all the time. It's difficult to reconnect (phone and PC takes ages and is not always successful).
I've tried the IT helpdesk solution of rebooting it but it only works for a few hours then gives up again
Should I just bin it and get a new one?

How old is the Netgear one you have, if it's less than a year then try and get it swapped, I'be no real idea how long suh things should last but I would say at least two years, it's not as if it has moving parts etc.

don't blame you for being hacked off, should last at least two years, if not more.

| I would expect to get more out of it, we have some standard wireless routers still working that are more than five years old.
You could try upgrading the firmware?

| Not sure if anyone can help me here, but my Acer laptops playing up (yet again). I can right click, and my mouse works. Icons recognise that I'm hoverring my mouse over them, but I cannot left click on anything. I can right click as normal, but both the tap to left click and pressing the button aren't recognised not at all. Not sure why this is, but any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
EDIT: I've just tried using mousekeys, and this works too. Its just my trackpad click and left mouse button.
