All parties overstate the number of seats they expect to lose in a bad year - that way it doesn't look as bad as they predicted. Warsi had been saying before Thursday that the Tories expected to lose 700 seats, on Newsnight on Thursday when it looked like they might [iactually[/i lose 700 seats she upped the number to 1000!
I reckon Warsi is in her position because she ticks several boxes for Cameron, she's Asian, she's a Muslim, and she speaks with a pronounced Yorkshire accent - which is presumably to help him reconquer the Northern cities. Good plan except of course it wasn't working before May 2010, and it's still not working now.
