I thought it was a joke at first when I read that the University of Gloucester will have a team in Championship 1 in 2013. Then I checked the date - no it isn't April 1st. So I ask myself which planet are the RFL on? (Answers on a post card to Red House, although madhouse might be more appropriate.)

| Why not? It won't just be students playing - they will definitely recruit from outside the student population.
Have you seen their submission or their business plan?

| PS I know it's Red Hall, not Red House - had a brain freeze.
No I haven't seen the Gloucester business plan but I'll bet that they get far more help from the RFL that Eagles ever had. I predict that within 3 years they will be gone.
WTF is so wrong with expanding the game gradually tp places on the fringe of RL heartlands such as Chesterfield, Beverley, Skipton, Penrith?

Because no-one in those places has put together a business plan that has the backing of a multi-million pound institution.
Finding anyone to fund an amateur rugby league club in Chesterfield is difficult enough.

| I've never seen any sign of rugby league in Skipton, given how its 5-10 minutes from Keighley, I think other areas should take priority.

| That's ok, ask any of the guys who went on the coach to Keighley where it is, they had a whole tour of the area that day!! You're right about whether they will survive after 3 years, will the RFL be paying their costs to travel to away games?

I bet people said that about the Eagles. In fact some supporters at some clubs consider us whippersnappers as we've only been around 25 years.
I think all clubs in that division get subsidised centrally, and it's possible that this varies dependent on travel distances. However all clubs in next year's CC1 will have substantial travel bills and will be treated equally, whether they are Gloucester, Rochdale, Whitehaven or South Wales.

Yep - RFL pick up the coach bills in this division.
